Married At First Sight’s Mike hoping to land TV gig

A popular comedian has revealed how Mike from MAFS is working behind the scenes to try and extend his 15 minutes of fame.

Married At First Sight is just a couple of weeks away from ending and already some contestants are working behind the scenes in a bid to extend their five minutes of fame.

Culprit number one, according to comedian Ash Williams, is Gold Coast electrician Mike who was one of the most talked about MAFS contestants this week due to his explosive dinner party confrontation with Jessika.

Ash, who hosts the popular podcast The Ash Williams Show, revealed on Nova’s Chrissie, Sam and Browny that Mike hit him up for help to secure a TV role after they both appeared on an episode of Talking Married at Channel 9.

“He just came up to me after the show … and was pretty keen to chat,” the comedian told news.com.au, revelling more details about their meeting.

“It just went from a really innocent conversation to a dirty conversation.

“He said, ‘Hey Ash, I want to talk to you about getting into the media. I want to get into the media. I love the media’.

“I’m like, ‘f***ing hell’,” Ash laughed.

“I said, ‘What kind of media? It’s pretty broad. TV, radio?’

“He goes, ‘Nah, I feel like I’m more TV, in front of the camera’.

“He said, ‘Let’s chat, let’s discuss media’.”

Ash told Mike to email him, but if Mike is wondering why he never heard back — Ash

gave him a fake email.

It’s not the first time Mike has tried to get on national TV.

In a recent interview with Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa, the electrician confirmed a rumour he almost made it on to Australian Survivor.

“A couple of years ago I did throw my hat in the ring with Survivor and I got close enough,” he told the radio duo.

“Clearly they didn’t choose me, and here we are … I’m glad I never did it because I never would have done MAFS.”

Mike also told the Nova hosts he’s dabbled in acting before and has also “thrown his hat in the ring” for voiceover work in the past.

The reality contestant, who has angered viewers with his treatment of “wife” Heidi in the TV experiment, was accused earlier this year of setting up and running his own fan page on Instagram.

After the show started, an Instagram account called “Team Mike” was set up and Mike himself was the first person to follow it.

Some of the captions on the posts were so detailed that fans speculated Mike could be running the page.

One post said: “It’s easy to overlook the human side of people we see on TV. For those who know Mike, we know him as a guy who will do anything for a friend and everything for family. He is open, honest. Loyal. Hard working. And he is a passionate advocate for animal welfare.”

In an interview with KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O, Mike denied being the person behind the account and insisted it was a close friend who set it up.

“No, it’s not my page,” he said. “It’s a friend of mine who is I guess a bit offended by the trolling and thought she’d throw a bit of support my way.

“I had nothing to do with it,” he continued. “But suddenly I was sent a link and look, she’d obviously put in enough effort to go and set this thing up and I felt compelled to follow it and see what people said.”

The Instagram account was flooded with negative comments which Mike said was unfair to his friend.

“I asked her to shut it down,” he said. “It didn’t feel right in the end and she was getting a lot of flak and I didn’t want her to go through that.”
