Ben Fordham has revealed what happened between Jessika Power and Dan Webb just seconds before their disastrous interview on Talking Married.

The couple almost broke up on live TV last night as they discussed the season finale of the Channel 9 reality show which showed Jess hitting on Nic before she hooked up with Dan.

At the start of their interview, co-host Ben Fordham told viewers that Dan and Jess had had an explosive verbal fight with one another just moments before their TV appearance.

“There were some F-bombs going off and it seems the tension is pretty strong there,” Fordham said on the show.

Footage of the fight wasn’t aired and viewers weren’t told what exactly had gone down between the pair.

Tensions were running high between Jess and Dan.

But this morning Fordham spoke to news.com.au about the spat and revealed the altercation stemmed from a bad joke.

“They were sitting there on the couch with their earpieces in getting ready to do a live cross and you could just tell that the tension was so strong,” Fordham told news.com.au.

“Someone cracked a joke and that joke led to a quick flashpoint argument between the two of them seconds before we were due to go on air.

“What the joke was … they were a little bit sick. I think Jess cracked a joke saying she got her sniffle from Mick and then Dan said, ‘Are you sure it wasn’t Nic?’”

The comment didn’t go down well with Jess.

“She just turned around and gave him daggers and said, ‘I don’t appreciate that. Why did you say that?’

“Then she started throwing F-bombs at him and he started throwing them back and it went for about 30 seconds and we were a minute away from going live.

“I thought Jess was going to walk, in fact she threatened to walk just before we went live. She said, ‘Listen, if this is going to continue I’m not going to f***ing stay here.’

“I thought, ‘Hang on, we’re about to lose this thing,’ so I butted in, called for calm and asked the two of them just to settle down for a moment and I completely changed the subject and tried to lighten the mood a little bit just to keep them there for 40 seconds until the interview started.”

Ben Fordham grilled the couple on Talking Married.

Fordham said he decided to come clean with the audience about the pre-interview fight because “it was pretty obvious something had happened because the two of them looked like they were at a funeral”.

They decided not to air the footage of the spat because it would have taken too long to get it ready for air.

“It would have taken 15 minutes to put beeps over the F-bombs because there were too many of them,” Fordham told news.com.au.

During the explosive interview, Jess blindsided Dan when she admitted she had hit on Nic during one of the Married At First Sight dinner parties.

“That’s the first time she’s admitted it to me as well,” Dan said.

Jess then backflipped of her confession.

“I’m admitting it for Dan. I don’t feel like I did, but it’s obviously what Dan wants to hear,” she said.

“It’s not what I want to hear,” he replied.

“We’re not having a fight on national television,” she said.

Dan and Jess were locked in for a number of TV and radio appearances this morning but they cancelled after their live TV spat.

They were due to appear with all the other MAFS contestants on Kyle and Jackie O this morning but the KIIS FM’s breakfast show’s producer said she received a text at 1am informing her they wouldn’t be appearing on the radio show.
