MAFS star Martha Kalifatidis ‘trying to reinvent her image’ after show

Martha was labelled one of the show’s “mean girls”, but now one of her co-stars claims she is overhauling her image to work with high fashion brands.

MAFS 2019: Where are the cast now?

Martha Kalifatidis left Married At First Sight labelled one of the show’s “mean girls” after her controversial antics on the show.

But according to co-star Jess Power, Martha is now distancing herself from her and Ines Basic in a bid to score lucrative endorsement deals.

Jess told Yahoo Lifestyle she and Martha had drifted apart because “I’m single and controversial and Martha is in a relationship with Michael”.

“I think Martha wants to work with high fashion and things like that,” Jess explained but stressed there was “definitely no bad blood there”.

“You know what, I totally get that. Your job should be your priority,” Jess added.

During an appearance on Today Extra earlier this week, Martha confirmed she was no longer in touch with the other MAFS contestants apart from her boyfriend Michael Brunelli.

“The reality is I don’t really speak to anyone from the show anymore,” Martha said. “Not because we have bad blood — just simply because life goes on and you move on.”

Since leaving MAFS, Martha has launched a YouTube channel where she has more than 19,000 subscribers.

Building on her reputation as a Kim Kardashian lookalike, Martha has attracted attention by sharing racy Instagram photos.

She’s scored representation with top influencer talent agency MGMT, which also represents MAFS favourites Jules Robinson and Cam Merchant.

After MAFS wrapped up in April, Martha revealed she had been the subject of an extreme fan backlash and even threats against her life.

She told KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O she was too afraid to leave the house due to the number of death threats she’d received.

“The amount of death threats and violent threats that I received, I actually said to Michael, ‘I’m actually scared now’,” Martha said. “Last night (after the finale) was a new level. They know exactly the places that I go to.

“I’ve been going to the local shops by myself, and they’re messaging me going, ‘Wait until I see you at so and so’. Michael even said, ‘Maybe just don’t go out alone for a while’.

“Some of these messages were really scary,” she added. “It’s just a show. People have taken it so seriously and are so emotionally invested.”

The controversial contestant told the KIIS FM hosts she was too scared to go back to work as a make-up artist.

“I don’t want to be just turning up to people’s houses,” she said. “I don’t feel safe at the moment, I really don’t. I don’t know who I can trust.

“I did ask to go back to my old job, which was at a retailer, but it was too much of a liability for them.”
