MAFS star Elizabeth explains bizarre hair extensions

Married At First Sight star Elizabeth knows Australia is talking about her “horrendous” hair extensions. She has an explanation.

Married At First Sight contestant Elizabeth Sobinoff’s unusual hair has become quite the talking point among fans of the show this season.

The 27-year-old’s rather obvious-looking hair extensions have been the subject of much mockery online this week:

Adding to the confusion — another shot from the show, in which Sobinoff appears to wear some sort of skull cap underneath the extensions:

MAFS contestant Elizabeth's hair caused a stir.

“Yeah they are terrible, they are horrendous,” the reality TV star told 9 Honey of her hair extensions. “I wish you could see my hair right now. It’s all right right now, and the hair colour tends to get better going on in the series.”

Elizabeth has explained dodgy extensions.

She said her less-than-stellar hair in the early episodes of the series were a result of changing her hair colour — and a scroll through her Instagram account shows that not too long ago, Sobinoff was a brunette:

But there’s another, more serious reason Sobinoff uses hair extensions. She lives with a Lupus-like auto-immune disease which causes sensitivity to sunlight. The disease has caused hair loss in the past, as well as burns on exposed skin.

“Unfortunately the rash on my scalp and my ears is continuously photosensitive,” she told 9 Honey. “So the extensions do act like a hat in ways.”

“The main rash occurs at the nape. I actually lost a whole bunch of hair at the nape, and when I was 23, I lost the front of my hairline as well.”

Sobinoff’s on-screen groom Sam Ball didn’t pull any punches when talking about her hair on the Kyle and Jackie O show this morning.

“I didn’t get too close to the hair extensions that’s for sure,” he said.

“I got a close look, I think there’s a netting issue there, there’s something going on. I didn’t ask any questions, but obviously there’s the extensions and stuff like that... it’s a different look.”
