MAFS bride Elizabeth finally explains mystery absence from show

The reality star has revealed the real reason for her disappearing act from MAFS after it was left unexplained on the show.

MAFS 2019 Episode 29 Recap: Tears & Heartache

Married At First Sight’s Elizabeth Sobinoff has revealed the medical condition that prompted her mystery absence from the reality show.

After being left alone after their wedding by “husband” Sam Ball so he could attend the funeral of his ex-girlfriend’s mother, Elizabeth also had her own vanishing act that was left largely unexplained on the show.

At the time MAFS expert John Aikten would only tell the other contestants Elizabeth was absent for medical reasons, but did not elaborate further.

The 27-year-old disappeared from the show for a full week, during which time Sam had an affair with another bride, Ines Basic.

Speaking to 9 Honey, Elizabeth said she was forced to leave after she “developed a respiratory infection and a secondary bacterial infection”.

In addition to battling the infections, the fan favourite also revealed she has two chronic health conditions, blood disorder Porphyria and a mild form of auto-immune disease Lupus, which impacted her time on Married At First Sight.

The conditions affect her nervous system, make her hair fall out and causes her skin to be sensitive extremely sensitive and burn easily in the sun.

To help manage her conditions, Elizabeth said she avoids coffee, tea and alcohol and relies on a high carb diet, which can cause her weight fluctuate by up to six kilos.

She also has chocolate with her at all times to help with flare ups — something fans of Elizabeth noticed — and loved — during her time on MAFS.

“Chocolate, I always have to have it in my handbag, Gatorade as well. With the blood condition, you lose electrolytes and your body dehydrates,” she told 9 Honey.

Her conditions also affect her speech, with Elizabeth explaining: “One of the reasons I speak so loud and fast is because it’s how I cover it up. Otherwise I can’t say the words properly or I might stutter and I can’t push out the words.”

Wearing hair extensions also helps protect Elizabeth’s skin, with the reality star detailing her new look on Instagram.

“Why I feel that I had to address this is because I do indeed have a medical condition where I loose my hair due to overexposure of light, and I have a rash predominantly on the back of my nape travelling to my ears, it covers most of my scalp, but the bulk of the rash is at the back of my head,” she wrote.

“It is not pleasant and it never leaves and I have to treat it with a steroid every second day.

“The extensions act a way similar to a hat. Due to the bulk of hair it offers my scalp more of a form of protection.”

Married At First Sight continues Monday 7.30pm on Nine.
