MAFS bride Alyssa’s mother’s group ambush lashed by viewers

Married At First Sight’s unlikely villain has copped a wave of backlash for her unnecessary ambush of her TV husband last night.

Married At First Sight bride Alyssa Barmonde has copped a wave of criticism for her treatment of TV ‘husband’ Duncan James on last night’s episode.

The 35-year-old single mother seems intent on planting roadblocks in her relationship wherever possible, and on Monday night, she took Duncan to meet her friends from her mother’s group, Nadia and Natalie, in a bid to get him to understand what it’s like to be a parent.

But rather than have a conversation with Duncan, the trio of mothers ambushed the groom about how he’ll inevitably be a “second priority” to Alyssa’s son once they leave the Nine show, and following on from Alyssa’s ongoing concerns, they assumed he wasn’t OK with it.

Duncan, 36, was clearly losing patience with this assumption, given he’s never voiced concerns about it before. He again assured Alyssa he understood being a mother was her main focus.

“I think I’ve said that sentence probably 20 times in this experiment,” a frustrated Duncan told the women.

Then, Alyssa nonchalantly revealed that she’ll only be able to see Duncan on Wednesdays and every other weekend, a detail she hadn’t told him before.

Duncan held it together enough to say he could make that work, but later voiced in a piece-to-camera he was annoyed he received this information for the first time in “a public forum, and not personally”.

Duncan was shocked to hear Alyssa say they would barely see each other in the real world.

“Call me a bad person if in front of three people I said, ‘Yeah I think that could work,’” he said.

“But I have to sit and think about that.”

Viewers aired their frustration over Alyssa’s attitude towards Duncan on social media, as many mocked her over how many times she has said, “I have a child.”

Later, during their one-on-one date on a boat, Duncan attempted to have a conversation with Alyssa about her revelation that she would only be able to make time for him three times a fortnight.

He asked her why she didn’t bring it up earlier, before she turned the tables on him, asking, “Why didn’t you?”

Duncan then told Alyssa he didn’t think that would be a healthy relationship, before Alyssa broke down in tears and walked off.

“We haven’t been perfect, we’ve had some really tough times over the past couple of weeks, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t enjoyed them,” Alyssa said in a piece-to-camera.

“This is probably the healthiest relationship I’ve been in.”

On the other side of the coin, Duncan confessed last week that he’d never felt “more rejected” in a relationship before.
