‘Lie or I’m leaving you’: Sobbing Married At First Sight hulk destroyed by wife’s threat

Behind-the-scenes arguments about lies and threats have been unveiled on TV and left one MAFS husband destroyed. James Weir recaps.

Married At First Sight’s Incredible Hulk has an incredible sulk when his quest to expose a trash-talking cheater ends with a harsh ultimatum from his own wife at Sunday’s commitment ceremony where the experts finally offer an observation that Australia agrees with.

“I’ve become very bored,” John Aiken sighs halfway through the episode.

Same, Mr Aiken. Same.

Tonight’s trouble centres on Jayden and Eden. The couple has sailed through the experiment, high on Schwarzkopf and sanctimony. They’ve called out cheaters and gaslighters – all while presenting themselves with the effortless perfection of a Pantene ad.

From day one of their marriage, everything seemed great. With husband and wife both hair care enthusiasts, they pooled together their beauty accessories – Dyson Supersonic, GHD, Mermaid Hair Waver — and tamed each other’s flyaways. But after two months, there’s a darkness creeping in. Like manky regrowth.

Eden’s sick of Jayden blabbing all the secrets she tells him about the other Trash Tower freaks. His latest crusade has been against Sara, who he revealed had cheated (ish) on her husband Tim with an ex-boyfriend.

Now, in a new dispatch of fresh intel, Eden has told him Sara was mocking Tim with her ex. Jayden immediately ties his hair up into a no-nonsense bun and prepares for a fight to the death as he shines a light on the bad behaviour.

Eden’s miffed. And who wouldn’t be? If all our partners went and blabbed everything we told them about our friends, we’d have no friends left.

At the commitment ceremony, as Sara tells the experts she has been working tirelessly to win back Tim’s trust, Jayden pipes up from the sidelines.

“We see right through it!” he barks.

“We see right through her fake act – pretending to like Tim when she doesn’t like Tim at all. She just wants to stay here to save her image. All I’m hearing is how she’s constantly putting Tim down and how her and the ex were making fun of Tim that night when they were out together.”

Eden does not wish to be tangled up in this.

Sara immediately starts wagging her finger and denying it.

That little finger is getting quite the workout lately.

That’s when Jayden throws the missus under the bus.

“(Eden) told me and she knows exactly what was said!” he declares.

Eden gulps.

“Well … ah … that’s … not … it’s not what I said,” she trails off

Jayden doesn’t stray from his campaign.

“Well that’s what you told me – they were making fun of Tim,” he says.

“I don’t have any proof of that,” Eden washes her hands of the claims.

Jayden gets embarrassed. He has come in firing allegations and now his source is looking flimsy. They turn on each other.

“OK, well if you don’t have the full details it’s probably not worth bringing up and telling me,” he snaps at his wife.

Jayden expects to be hoisted on the shoulders of the group and hailed a champion for calling out bad behaviour. Instead, the other contestants just shrug. They’re bored of the scandal.

Not only has his plan failed, it’s also backfired and damaged his own marriage. Jayden is whipped in the face by his own proverbial ponytail.

The Hulk sulks.

“She wanted me to basically lie,” he tells the experts about Eden’s initial response to his Sara exposé.

“She said, ‘You can’t say that because then Sara will know that I can’t keep a secret!’ And she basically blew up at me and said, ‘If you don’t say what I tell you to say, I’m done with you. And I’m leaving you’.”

That’s when his voice starts to crack and the tears flow. The Hulk sulks.

“All the things I do for you. Like the flowers five times a week. I made a pillow into a dog because she missed her dog. I take you out for dinner every weekend. Writing a list of things I like about her,” he sobs.

“And then the other day, I wouldn’t do one thing (lie about Sara) and you blew up at me and you said, ‘Why don’t you do something nice for me, for once in your life!’. For once in your life? That’s disregarding all the nice things I’ve done. I don’t know if Eden is everything that I thought.”

Eden doesn’t know what to say. All she can do is stroke her husband’s hair and promise him unlimited use of the GHD every morning for an entire week.
