‘Laughable’: Married At First Sight editing fail mocked

Radio host Fitzy has pointed out a “laughable” editing fail on Married At First Sight, reminding Wippa of the time his own words were edited.

Meeting your partner for the first time at the altar is quite a dramatic concept as it is.

But just as reality television is known for high drama, there are of course some behind-the-scenes hands creating extra drama on Married At First Sight.

However, it seems the *creative* edits are not exactly flying under the radar.

Aussie TV and radio personality Ryan “Fitzy” Fitzgerald has called out an “editing fail” on Sunday night’s episode.

In particular, frankenbiting, an editing technique where sentences are pieced together from words from different sentences to make a person sound like they said something they didn’t. A piece-to-camera interview is usually cut together with other footage to give the illusion.

Fitzy described the editing on MAFS as “so out of whack that the audio is so laughable”, before playing a particular clip.

Contestant Dion Giannarelli says “I think it’s important for me to let Carolina know”, before the sentence is finished in a clearly much deeper tone with the words: “how I’m feeling”.

Fitzy took the opportunity to point out the time co-host Michael “Wippa” Wipfli was a victim to frankenbiting on Celebrity Apprentice Australia last year.

“Do you remember when you did Celebrity Apprentice and you had to leave because you were crook, but they said to you can you say that’s gastro? And you said well it’s not gastro.”

Wippa explained: “I actually said ‘I know I do not have gastro’”.

The pair then played the clip used on the show.

“At this point I know that I’m in trouble, so I’ve got to get out of there, I’ve got to go home because I’m pretty sure I have … gastro,” Wippa said.

Earlier this month, serial reality star Locky Gilbert, who is currently on SAS Australia, took to Instagram to both apologise and blame editing for comments that triggered huge backlash.

The 32-year-old, who has also been on Australian Survivor and The Bachelor, said on the show: “In the last 10 years, I really haven’t worked”.

“It blows my mind, people get up and go to work every single day. Living a mundane, boring life,” he continued. “I’ve just done whatever I’ve wanted to do and it’s got me this far.”

Gilbert wrote on Instagram after the episode aired that he “never meant it in the way it was edited”.

“When I said I don’t know how people go to work everyday, they left out the part where I said to a job they hate,” he wrote.
