An explosive MAFS wife loses her cool, and is left begging the experts to step in. James Weir recaps.

The Married At First Sight experts are forced to step in on Sunday night when one husband puts producers in a metaphorical headlock before a different husband puts his wife in a literal headlock.

Finally! Channel 9’s controversial reality show is making a meaningful contribution to society by bringing the noogie back into the culture.

Let’s be real: we’re only tuning in to the commitment ceremony to watch Adrian’s dreams of being a TV Week magazine cover girl blow up in smoke.

There’s also the added bonus of witnessing the backlash to Adrian and Sierra and their dirty plate of meat.

“It was so innocent! We just went for a plate of meat,” Sierah tearfully tells the experts about the secret dinner she shared with Adrian, behind the backs of their respective partners.

“Nothing happened between Adrian and I. And I just don’t think Billy likes me.”

She brings up Billy’s wife swap comment and tries to spin the situation around to make him the bad guy.

“I’m not a commodity you can trade! And why would you want to wife swap?!” she sobs.

John Aiken steps in.

“You cannot be treating a woman like a piece of meat,” he says.

Fair enough. … But what about a plate of meat?

“I’ve expressed every part of myself to you! My mum doesn’t even know some of the things I’ve said!” Billy tells his wife who has kept him at arms-length. “And I’ve got nothing from you, Sierah! Absolutely sweet F.A!”

Both decide to leave. Then Sierah cocks her head.

“I just wish we had this conversation before this because now I’ve heard you out I wish we could stay,” she says.

Billy’s face drops.

The experts try manipulating him into saying he feels the same. After all, producers can’t afford to lose another couple. But Billy refuses. This relationship can’t be reheated like a … like a … like a plate of meat.

Meanwhile, Morena is in a bind. Or, more specifically, a headlock.

“I’ve asked him to be a gentleman,” she quietly fumes to the experts about her husband Tony.

“I’ve said, ‘Do not fist pump me!’ And he still does it! I’ve asked him to stop headlocking me, and he still does it!”

She’s trying to minimise her rage to a whisper, after being shamed for screaming too much. But the volume quickly cranks up several notches.

Everyone starts giggling at her tirade. This sets her off even more.

“I’m sorry I’m not fun! And I’m so glad you’re all laughing!” she screams at the howling crowd.

The experts cover their grins and politely inquire if, instead of a headlock, Morena would prefer Tony surprise her with a purple nurple.

Of course, tonight’s whole therapy session is overtaken by Adrian, who has just learnt the word “deflecting” and won’t stop shouting it.

“Deflecting, deflecting, deflecting! I just cop deflect all the time! Deflecting!” he blurts as his wife Awhina explains how upset she is that he practically dumped her because he was snubbed from the MAFS publicity photoshoot.

“If I hear her deflect one more time. Bro, you can’t win. F**king women. You can’t win with these women.”

John Aiken steps in to call out Adrian and his diva demands.

“I’ve got it on good authority that you gave an ultimatum: put me in the promo, or I’ll leave,” he says. “Was there any reason to hold the production or Awhina to ransom? You gave an ultimatum.”

Was there any reason? Duh, Aiken. Who needs love when you can be a cover girl for TV Week magazine?

Adrian does a little of his own deflecting by jumping straight to his decision: STAY.

Awhina is no longer charmed by the sweet nothings he mumbles.

She wants to leave and go home to her child. She didn’t leave her baby to take care of an adult toddler.

But, as per the rules of Married At First Sight, when one person chooses to stay and another chooses to leave, the couple must remain in the experiment for another week.

Awhina is trapped. Like Morena in a headlock.
