Ex-MAFS star in war of words over nude photo scandal
Two ex-MAFS stars have become embroiled in a very public spat after weighing in on this season’s nude photo scandal.
Ex-Married At First Sight star Cyrell Paule has hit out at her former castmate Michael Brunelli after he publicly slammed Olivia Frazer over the nude photo scandal.
The 28-year-old teaching assistant is facing plenty of backlash after finding an OnlyFans photo of fellow 2022 MAFS bride Domenica Calarco, with whom she has repeatedly clashed on-screen, and sharing it among the group. Olivia later told the experts she felt no “empathy” towards her distressed co-star as the scandal engulfed the group.
Michael, who appeared on the 2019 season where he was paired with now-fiance Martha Kalifatidis, took to his Instagram Stories after Sunday night’s explosive episode with a selfie and sarcastic jab at Olivia.
“Me, a former teacher, trying to figure out how someone who doesn’t have the emotional intelligence to feel empathy wants to become a teacher,” he wrote.
But Cyrell was quick to jump in and brand him a “hypocrite”, re-sharing his post and adding: “Says the guy who also showed absolutely no emotional intelligence to feel empathy when his partner and himself were aware that people were being cheated on. Wouldn’t be such a hypocrite there ex teacher.”
In a second post, she wrote: “Before you point your finger, make sure your hand is clean.”
There’s certainly no love lost between Cyrell, Martha and Michael.”
The three were embroiled in plenty of clashes during MAFS season six, with Cyrell at one point confronting Martha in her apartment about a rumour she’d apparently circulated, and yelling: “I’m just going to be straight up and frank with you, I genuinely don’t like you. I think you sh*t stir and b**ch behind people’s back. So what I’m going to say is from now on Martha, stay the f**k out of my life.”
She later smashed a ceramic fruit bowl in rage. At the reunion, Martha returned serve by pouring a glass of wine over Cyrell’s head after she started berating Michael.
Meanwhile, Olivia has swiftly become one of the show’s most unpopular contestants after initially enjoying a stint as a fan favourite.
During this week’s commitment ceremony, she made it clear she felt no remorse over the nude picture scandal and actually tried to shift blame onto Dom.
“It was just such a nothing moment – I didn’t think it was a big deal,” Olivia said of the photo incident.
“When I say honestly there was no malice, it was just information that was dropped in my lap and thoughtlessly shared because I didn’t think it was a big deal.”
“Maybe there’s some room for a little self-exploration and a little human empathy because it’s very human to make mistakes and to maybe not know how to handle something,” sex expert Alessandra Rampolla pointed out.
“But if your behaviour is incorrect, there should be an apology for bad behaviour.”
But Olivia refused to back down.
“It’s just not in me. As far as empathy, I just don’t have it. It’s just not in me. And I’d be lying to your faces if I was like, ‘I have more empathy to give towards that situation,’” she said, before suggesting that she was, in fact, the victim.
“I feel like I’m constantly on the verge of tears, having to live in this drama.”
Married At First Sight continues at 7.30pm tonight on Nine.
