Viewers have slammed the groom for his aggressive attack on Cheryl, who reappeared in the experiment with jilted husband Andrew after dumping Jonathan last week.

The other contestants weren’t exactly thrilled at Cheryl being granted a second chance — but Anthony seemed to take it personally.

“We’ll see how this one pans out, good luck to you both. You’ll need it,” he remarked snidely at the couple, before calling Cheryl’s explanation of why she chose Andrew “bullsh*t.”

Later, he added: “Putting yourself in this position, though, where you’re having a second time around ... you gotta get it right. You’re gonna look like a f*ckin’ idiot if you get it wrong.”

The reaction online was intense.

Anthony seemed to realise he’d gone several dozen steps too far by the end of the episode, and attempted to backtrack.

“In hindsight, maybe I could’ve handled that a little more delicately,” he said, delivering the biggest understatement of the year so far.

Married At First Sight airs Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights on Channel Nine.
