Everything we know about Love Island season two

Love Island is hitting screens sooner than you can say “banter”. Could one contestant be the son of a very familiar face?

Love Island Australia season 2

In a matter of days, a group of scantily-clad singletons looking for love — sweetened by a giant wad of cash — will occupy our screens and fill the reality TV void left by The Bachelor.

And one of them is rumoured to be Shane Warne’s 20-year-old son, Jackson Warne.

Speaking on Fox FM’s Fifi, Fev and Byron this week, host Sophie Monk revealed the program — airing October 9th on Nine — will be based in Fiji this year.

But when it came to discussing the cast, she remained tight-lipped.

When Brendan Fevola asked the star directly whether Instagram influencer Jackson Warne was cast, Sophie did her best to shut the speculation down — looking to Nine’s publicist for guidance.

“He’s shaking his head, so no,” she said, adding: “I don’t think the show needs celebrities … you don’t need it. It’s all there.”

For those not familiar with the UK-originated show hosted by none other than ex-Bachelorette Sophie Monk and narrated by Irish comedian Eoghan McDermott, its format is as follows:

A group of contestants live half-naked under constant video surveillance in the isolation of a luxury tropical villa. To survive, they must be coupled up with another Islander at all times, whether it be for love, friendship or money, as the overall winning couple receives $50,000, like a far sexier Big Brother.

Day one sees the Islanders couple up based on first impressions, but over the duration of the series, they can “re-couple” when new contestants enter the house.

Any Islander who remains single after the re-coupling is cruelly booted off the island; poor, single and possibly sunburnt.

During the final week, however, the vote falls entirely on the public.

But here’s the twist — and potential proof that love is a lie — the envelope containing said wad of cash is only handed to one half of the couple, who must decide whether they split the cash with their partner, or pocket the full $50,000 and bail.

Last year’s winners, Tayla Damir and Grant Crapp, who halved the money, split within days of the show ending amid rumours the electrician had a ‘secret girlfriend’ in Canberra.

It’s deliciously trashy and to say we’re excited for season two is an understatement.

Here’s what we know about the contestants so far:

JESSIKA POWER RUMOURS

Controversial Married At First Sight bride Jessika Power has addressed rumours she’s heading to Love Island this week, promptly shutting them down and crushing dreams of fiery MAFS-like outbursts in the process.

“At the moment I have so many amazing projects in the works that I want to focus on, so the possibility of more reality TV for me this year isn’t in my cards,” she told New Idea .

Speculation arose following her split from MAFS alum Nick Furphy, with Daily Mail noting her new-found singledom happened to coincide with the announcement that Love Island Australia was confirmed for season two.

FIRST FEMALE CONTESTANT

The latest promos dropped on the Love Island Australian Instagram page tease our first contestants.

The first, a woman who says she’s looking for a man to “cook for, clean for, and look after”.

Wearing a crucifix necklace, she says in the voice over: “The woman’s role in a relationship is to take care of their man.

“To cook for them, to clean for them. I do like the feeling of looking after my man and taking care of them. I am ready to fall in love.”

And the bloke?

FIRST MALE CONTESTANT

He’s all about being “old school”, he claims, as the camera pans up his torso cheekily stopping at his chin.

“My values are a lot more old school than what’s floating around today,” he says with the hint of an accent.

“I treat women the right way. I was raised by a single mum. A girl can just expect me to be myself, just truthful and honest. I am ready to fall in love.”

SOPHIE’S HINTS

Aside from reiterating that the cast is very genetically blessed, Sophie says they’re “very diverse in every area, from religion to education to occupation to race — everything. So it’ll be very interesting”.

We guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Love Island Australia season two premieres on Monday, October 7 at 8.45pm on Nine.
