LIVE: Masked Singer 2020: Second celebrity unmasked as Michael Bevan

Six more disguised celebrities performed on Masked Singer tonight - and one sporting legend was revealed who nobody had guessed.

The Masked Singer: Michael Bevan is the second celebrity unmasked

Six more disguised celebrities performed in tonight's second episode of The Masked Singer - and in a complete surprise, the star unmasked was cricketing legend Michael Bevan.

International sporting legend Mark Philippoussis was the first celebrity to be unmasked on last night's season premiere, making it two sports stars in a row.

But it wasn't too hard to guess the identities of those who got to keep their disguises: Kate Miller-Heidke, Sophie Monk and Christine Anu are among my guesses for the other celebs

Tonight was much trickier. I liveblogged the episode below and it is INFURIATING me that I can't place the Bushranger's voice. And Casey Donovan as the sloth? That I was sure of...but now I hear Katie Noonan... This show!

Updates

Let's recap tonight's line-up

Well that was an altogether tougher night than last night, wasn't it? I think the only celeb I was dead-cet certain on was Casey Donovan – although not many on social media seemed to agree, with many more convinced it was Katie Noonan. With the Hammerhead unmasked as cricketer Michael Bevan, here are the other five who performed tonight:

The sloth: Casey Donovan / Katie Noonan (I'm torn!)

The wizard: Isaiah Firebrace

The kitten: Tanya Hennesy

The cactus: Lucy Durack (her fans seem convinced of this – she's definitely got the talent to pull off that performance)

The bushranger: I truly have no idea but I'm scanning my memory banks for US R&B soul divas. Seen a lot of Marcia Hines guesses – I think that's close, but not correct.

Tonight's unmasked celebrity is...

The hammerhead is MICHAEL BEVAN? Australian cricketing legend. I did NOT see that coming. He's played 500 games for Australia, and yet I didn't recognise him because he was never a member of Bardot.

Are we through with the sports people, Ten? Please, I beg you!

Tonight's final performer: The Bushranger

Clues: "I'm not afraid to stand up and take what I want. My past is important to me. Like a true bushranger, I took the path less travelled and I have never regretted it. That's because I'm a fighter from a family of fighters. In fact, I became famous punching above my weight. But a successful bushranger knows when to hide.

Sometimes, the only way to survive is to turn the light out. It's better than crying and rusting my helmet. I was a pioneer, the first of my kind. But others followed in my path and more will come in future."

Firstly: The Bushranger's a lady! And she delivers a professional-sounding rendition of LunchMoney Lewis' Bills. She's clearly a singer – there's a very powerful high note in there. It's also, dare I say it, a slightly more mature sounding singer? Someone in their 40s or beyond. What big-lunged veteran soul divas do we know?

Weirdly, the Bushranger's the only contestant tonight not to have their speaking voice disguised with cartoony effects – and hers sounds like the voice of an African-American woman. Wait. Unless that's the disguise?

A few on social media have named Muhammad Ali's daughter, TV personality and former boxer Laila Ali – seems like a random choice until you learn she participated in the US Masked Singer last year. Seeing a lot of Jess Mauboy guesses too but I'm not convinced – Bushranger's voice sounded more mature.

Cactus takes the stage

Clues: "I am the Cactus, persistent and determined to survive in the world's toughest environment. Most cactuses put down their roots where they first land, but not me. It took a while for me to find where I belonged. Along the way, I've walked the most hallowed turf in the land.

I'm a bit of a princess. But am I dangerous? I was called that at the start of my career. I took it hard. But don't we all need something that scares us just a little? I'm definitely not the best mover in my family.

I know the odds are against me 12/1, but I've fought the odds before. Tonight, I'm going to roll the dice and come up a winner!"

The Cactus sings a spirited rendition of No Doubt's Just A Girl. It's punky, spiky, very American – so I'm surprised to see so many guesses for Aussie musical theatre performer Lucy Durack on Twitter:

If anyone's good at disguising their voice and transforming into another character, it'd be a professional musical theatre performer with more than 15 years' experience like Durack.

Slipping in another clue, she also tells the judging panel that "there was a time when she was overshadowed."

The Hammerhead performs

"Not flashy, but I get the job done every time. You can't tell by looking at me, but I'm on the right side of 50. Before most of you ever heard of me, I came of age in a Western. But I went on to create a style of my own. I was the first to do what I did. Of course, I can't do what I do entirely on my own. My skills let me travel anywhere English is spoken. And along the way, you never know whose attention you'll attract."

The Hammerhead sings a great, dare I say Keith Urban-y rendition of Working Class Man. This is tough!

Adam Garcia's a top guess on Twitter – also seeing a lot of Jamie Durie guesses across multiple singers (is he paying you?), and… er… Scott Cam. Guys: He's on Nine, they probs wouldn't let him nip across to a rival network for a sing-song.

Also unlikely, but oft-guessed: Robbie Williams. Robbie loves his Aussie fans but he's probably riding out this pandemic in his English country manor with his family, rather than flying to Melbourne to compete in a singing contest.

The kitten is...?

Clues: "Adorable, but with claws. That sounds about right. Kittens don't sing. Well, not often, and rarely in public. Late at night, maybe. And then we get a shoe thrown at us! I should be used to the criticism. For every high, there's been a low. Like all kittens, I've had my time in the sun. From a very young age, water has been a central part of my life, like a dolphin. But I left that behind to seek the heat of the spotlight elsewhere. But I'm back home now and making up for lost time."

The kitten delivers a banging, sultry rendition of Dua Lipa's Don't Start Now. This is a tough one! Let's ignore the judges, who guessed Julia Gillard and Susan Boyle. Seeing a few Nat Bass and Julia Morris guesses on Twitter… Call me crazy – I have literally nothing to base this on – but could this be Tanya Hennessy? She competed on Ten's I'm A Celeb last year and I could hear a vocal similarity. Do the clues match up?

Another clue for The Wizard...

He told the judges he's not into rock but likes "heavy metal." Isaiah Firebrace released a single called Streets of Gold in 2017. And the stuff about starting young, with a mentor? As a child, he landed a scholarship at the David Jaanz School of Singing.

Wizard's up next

Clues: "I understand the power of magic. I believe in the unexpected. I feel connected to the earth. Grounded. The power isn't in everyone, but when you feel it, you need to use it to help others. I want the power – more power the better – and to be in control at all times. There are others like me. Many others! But I've found myself in a smaller group, eventually just alone. My abilities were recognised young and my mentor showed me the road I should take. The hours were long, but I persevered."

The Wizard sings Katy Perry's Firework – and as people have said since he was featured briefly in a promo, it really does sound a lot like former X Factor winner Isaiah Firebrace. He's not guessed by the judging panel though – their guesses include Anh Do, Chris Hemsworth and Jason Donovan.

The Sloth's first up

The clues: "I'm a sloth – not because I'm slow-moving. No-one thinks that. It's because I slide from one project to the next without anyone seeing me move. I have a colourful past and very colourful family. I love the sunshine and I surround myself with it every day. I'm conservative in many ways but experimental at the same time. My biggest performance was on the sporting stage. Accurate timing was essential. I couldn't afford to make a mistake. And you make no mistake either, I'll hit the ground running tonight."

OK, ignore those clues because I INSTANTLY recognised the voice belting out Lizzo's Good As Hell from inside that Sloth costume. Ladies and gentlemen, tonight's first performer is 100% Casey Donovan!

Not long to go...

Any early ideas based on the clues released so far for tonight's Masked Singers?

The cactus is "dangerous, but I would rather keep that private.”

The Wizard says their "“childhood neighbours hated my singing voice – but who’s having the last laugh now!”

The Hammerhead insists they've "“never started a fight … but I always nail them in the end!”

The sloth has "quite the way with words, even when they’re not mine.”

The bushranger is "not afraid to take the gloves off and get my hands a little dirty.”

And the kitten? “You wouldn’t say I’m shy … maybe that’s why I feel the cold so often.”

Hmm…?
