KISS Bang Love’s ratings flop proves reality TV fans want dating shows with drama, high emotions and believable love not overt public displays of affection.
KISS Bang Love’s ratings flop proves reality TV fans want dating shows with drama, high emotions and believable love not overt public displays of affection.
The show about blindfolded singles pashing launched last week in 23rd place with 513,000 viewers on OzTAM’s overnight ratings. Tuesday’s second episode was a lamentable 24th with 446,000 viewers.
Kiss Bang Love rated so poorly on Tuesday that it finished just ahead of long-running afternoon US soapie The Bold And The Beautiful.
The cringe-worthy series is not the first dating show to hit the Seven network this year. However the latest offering, by the same creators of Married At First Sight, has turned viewers off and not on.
Seven had success with First Dates, in which couples meet for the first time over dinner, and Seven Year Switch about four couples trying to salvage their relationship.
In both these reality love shows viewers were able to connect with the audience and relate to the experiences of the participants.
Not so Kiss Bang Love which involved contestants rinsing their mouths, flossing their teeth and popping mints in between each pash. Viewers appear to feel the same disdain for the television program as they do witnessing two people getting it on in the corner of the local pub.
Even though the show has tanked, it was fun for the contestants says Chelsea who featured in the promos for the season launched. “There were some great kissers and there were some terrible kissers, but no, I didn’t get pash rash,” Chelsea told AAP.
Once the Kiss Bang Love finale airs, it will be kiss bang over for the concept.
