Kim Kardashian West returns to the White House
Kim Kardashian West has thanked President Trump for his “compassion” toward ex-prisoners during her speech at a White House event.
Kim Kardashian West has returned to the White House in a surprise appearance as part of her ongoing bid to help ex-prisoners re-enter the community upon their release from jail.
The reality TV star was invited to speak at the Second Chance Hiring and Re-entry event, which promotes the hiring of prisoners released early under the First Step Act, the criminal justice reform law President Trump signed into law late last year.
It’s an issue which Kardashian has passionately thrown her support behind over the past year, and during her speech, she revealed why she’d been drawn to the plight of former inmates.
“These people want to work. They want the best outcome,” she told the crowd before revealing a new proposal.
“I’m so happy to announce today that we have a ride-share partnership where formerly incarcerated people will be gifted gift cards so that they can get rides to and from job interviews, to and from jobs, family members.
“And that is so important, so needed and I just want to thank the president for really standing behind this issue. Seeing the passion he has for criminal justice has been really remarkable.”
Kardashian sat between senior White House advisers Jared Kushner and his wife Ivanka Trump during the event.
Earlier in the day, the TV star and cosmetics mogul shared a video on Twitter about the upcoming event.

Last year, Kardashian met with Mr. Trump at the White House to discuss criminal justice reform and bring the case of Alice Johnson to his attention. The 64-year-old woman had been imprisoned for 21 years on a nonviolent drugs charge, and was subsequently pardoned by the President and released from jail.
The mum of four revealed in April that she’s now studying to become a lawyer and plans to sit for the bar exam in 2022.
