Katy Perry has reportedly signed a $US25 million deal for her role as an American Idol judge
KATY Perry has signed on to judge the new, revamped American Idol and new reports have revealed her salary is absolutely ridiculous.
IF ONLY all of us were famous enough to be a talent show judge because, according to new reports, Katy Perry is set to earn a ludicrous amount of money — purely for telling people they’re terrible singers.
According to TMZ, sources close to the impending American Idol deal reveal Perry is set to make an eye-watering $US25 million for being a judge on the hit talent show — one of the largest deals of its kind in history.
It has become increasingly common for talent shows to fork out huge amounts of money to secure some of the industry’s biggest names.
Jennifer Lopez signed on to the 13th season of American Idol back in 2013 for a mammoth $US17.5 million and Shakira reportedly scored a very reasonable $US12 million for being a judge on the fourth season of The Voice.
Even Britney Spears, who was one of the quietest judges in history, made $US15 million for her stint on The X Factor.
While Mariah Carey almost cracked the $20 million mark for judging American Idol with her $US18 million paycheck, Katy Perry has become the second highest paid talent show judge in history — behind Simon Cowell of course who makes close to $US100 million for his role on The X Factor (and because he owns the show).
As reported by TMZ, Perry’s huge payday is largely due to ABC having to publicly announce the show next week — something they can’t do without any judges signed on.
“Katy had all the leverage. If ABC ended up announcing the show without a judge, they’d be screwed,” a source told the website.
American Idol went on a one-year hiatus in 2016 after 15 highly rated seasons. Earlier this month, ABC announced they were reviving the hit show which will return to air in 2018.
Katy Perry is the only confirmed judge so far however there is a lot of speculation around radio host Ryan Seacrest returning to host the show.
