Is My Kitchen Rules contestant Josh Meeuwissen the biggest jerk in the TV show’s history?

JOSH Meeuwissen’s latest outburst, which saw his wife refused to stand next to him, cements him as the biggest jerk in My Kitchen Rules’ history.

JOSH Meeuwissen has cemented his position as the biggest jerk in My Kitchen Rules history with his boorish antics during tonight’s sudden death cook-off episode.

The My Kitchen Rules’ elimination cook between Court and Duncan Hall-Eastey and Mell Claydon and Cyn Cuoco was nearly railroaded by Josh’s provocative slurs from the peanut gallery.

Josh’s comments aimed at Court and Duncan were so embarrassing that wife Amy Meeuwissen refused to stand next to him.

But Court and Duncan had the last laugh, scoring a mighty impressive 50 out of 60 from judges Pete Evans, Manu Feildel, Karen Martini, Liz Egan, Colin Fassnidge, and Guy Grossi.

Court and Duncan plated up an entree of fried chicken with pickle and hot sauce, a main of pork and mushroom broth with soba noodles, and dessert of yoghurt panna cotta with chocolate.

Mell and Cyn were eliminated after scoring 34 out of 60 for their menu of roasted beetroot risotto with goats cheese and thyme oil, beef fillet with tempura oysters and parsnip puree, and vanilla bean ice cream with passionfruit curd and tuiles.

But it was Josh’s snide comments that had the cooking show’s contestants seeing red. During entree, Josh said he wanted Court and Duncan to stay in the competition so he could face them in sudden death.

Rival contestant Tyson Murr wondered whether Josh was deliberately trying to put Court and Duncan off their game.

“Josh might be purposefully trying to influence Court and Dunk while they cook or he might just be having another outburst, I’m not quite sure,” Tyson said.

Wife Amy had enough and walked away to watch the cook-off from the other side of the viewing gallery.

Della Whearty let fly with “If your wife is not standing here, you’re doing something wrong. Otherwise she would be backing you so you need to stop it.”

Court was more direct, saying “I feel sorry for Amy, she married a douche.”

Karen Gawne called Josh an ‘a**hole’, saying “If we get eliminated before him, I’ll be devastated.”

Josh finally tried to make up with Amy, saying “I promise I won’t say anything besides the food” but Amy was unimpressed.

“You can’t help yourself,” she replied. “You always have to bark back.”

The Josh sideshow distracted from the fact that Court and Duncan were plating up some of the best food on My Kitchen Rules in weeks.

Martini described the couple’s fried chicken entree as a “perfect, perky, delicious little starter”. Feildel said that a little more salt in the crumb coating the chicken would have made it 10 out of 10.

But it was Court and Duncan’s broth that had the judges salivating. “This is what we expect in sudden death,” Evans enthused. “It is one of those dishes that you just want to go back for more and more.”

The Victorian hipsters ran into issues with their dessert when the raspberry coulis wouldn’t cool in time and they were forced to leave it out.

“The panna cotta is beautiful and soft and rich but I feel like I want something to add texture,” Grossi said.

“I would have loved to have seen that berry jelly — it would have really finished the dessert,” Feildel added.

Mell and Cyn’s risotto lacked soupiness and the rice was undercooked.

“It needs to be quite liquidy,” Egan said. “That is not good risotto.”

The pair’s beef main drew mixed reactions with Egan saying the mineral taste of the oysters clashed with the beef. Evans criticised the lack of a decent sauce.

Dessert drew more praise despite Mell and Cyn having to change tack when their passionfruit curd refused to set. They quickly whipped up meringue which saved the day.

“I’m glad they’ve finished on a high,” Evans said.

Mell and Cyn scored sixes from Grossi, Egan, Fassnidge and Evans and fives from Martini and Feildel.

That was nowhere near enough to beat Court and Duncan who grabbed nines from Egan and Evans and eights from the rest of the judges.

“This experience has been the highlight of our lives,” a disappointed Mell said.

“It’s sad, but it’s not the end of the world for us,” Cyn added.
