Simone Holtznagel confronts fat-shamer: ‘Hi Mick, got anything to say to me?’

I’M A Celeb star Simone Holtznagel confronted comedian Mick Molloy at the Grand Prix about his “fat-shaming” comment. Here’s what she told him.

THE towering blonde strode up to Mick Molloy and thrust out her hand with the megawatt smile.

“Simone Holtznagel,” she announced. “Hi Mick. Nice to meet you. Have you got anything to say to me?”

Molloy, cornered, looked simultaneously sheepish and mortified as the corporate marquee crowd looked on.

The Melbourne Grand Prix function was a fitting setting for Molloy — who earlier this month was slammed after labelling Holtznagel a plus-size model, then humming the tune to The Elephant Song as he tried for laughs talking about her stint in the jungle on Ten’s I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here — as a reminder to beware of dangerous curves.

Especially when they come in the form of a size six, 177cm model who calls it as she sees it and loves a laugh but didn’t see the punchline in Molloy’s attack.

“I’m so, so sorry,” he replied as he came face-to-face with Holtznagel.

“I know you’re not fat. You are beautiful. It was meant to be a joke.”

Holtznagel had initially responded to his comments as she left the jungle, saying “seriously, if I’m going to take modelling career advice or any advice on fitness, he’s not going to be the person I take it from,” but was keen to look her fat-shamer in the eye, to clear the air.

“I was in the Channel Ten function when I heard Mick was next door, and knew I’d see him at some point, so it might as well be now,” Holtznagel told news.com.au.

Clad in leopard-print Manning Cartel with heeled boots adding more leverage to her 177cm frame, she certainly looked six-feet-high and bulletproof as strode into Molloy’s marquee.

Making a beeline for Molloy, the Guess model seemed to have him guessing.

“He had his hands full of drinks, so I just stuck out my hand and smiled and introduced myself,” she said.

“He was very apologetic, and said again it was a joke, and that’s fine. I just reminded him that fat-shaming people isn’t cool, whether you’re a model or not,” she said.

Holtznagel chatted with Molloy for about 10 minutes, before the pair posed for a picture which she uploaded to Instagram to close the debate.

“Hatchet = buried,” she captioned the post, adding “I chose to take the high road”.

“I just wanted to talk to him because it happened when I was away, and I think he realised when my friends hit back at him (they were in control of her social media feeds while she was on the show) that there will always be people that care about you that call that stuff out.

“You just don’t need to make comments like that or resort to name calling. There’s far funnier stuff to talk about than that.

She said Molloy told her he’d been fat-shamed since he’d made the comment.

“We had a good chat and cleared the air,” she said.

The hatchet may be buried, but Holtznagel isn’t sure she’ll take up Molloy’s offer to come on his radio show anytime soon.
