‘Poor bastard’: Australia roasts perennial runner-up Shannon Noll

THE curse of Shannon Noll strikes again, with the former Australian Idol runner up coming second in ANOTHER reality TV show. His old Idol mates didn’t hold back.

I’M A Celeb contestant Shannon Noll received a message from an old friend on Monday night’s live final - and it came with a bit of a sting in the tail.

Noll is perhaps the most famous runner-up in Australian television history thanks to his stint on the 2003 debut season of Australian Idol - a stint that saw him come second to Guy Sebastian.

15 years later, Noll last night came second on another reality show, this time having spent six weeks in the South African jungle with a group of other celebrities.

Noll, boxer Danny Green and Fiona O’Loughlin were the last three contestants left standing this season, and early in last night’s finale each received a special message from a famous friend.

Noll’s was from Sebastian, who delivered his message from a lush golf course, apparently midway through a game:

“G’day, Shannon. Wishing you luck, mate. Almost at the pointy end. We are doing it tough in solidarity for you, mate,” said Sebastian, leaning on a gold club and clearly enjoying the high life.

“Last time I wished you luck, it was on the Idol stage, that didn’t pan out very well. Hopefully, it will pan out better this time. Good luck!”

Back in the jungle, hosts Chris Brown and Julia Morris remarked that Noll was surely in with a better chance of winning this competition, given Sebastian wasn’t on the show.

“Thank goodness for that,” he quipped.

Later on in the finale as O’Loughlin was crowned queen of the jungle leaving Noll as runner-up yet again, well-known Australians - including former Idol host Osher Gunsberg - couldn’t resist joining in the good-natured ribbing:
