I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here: Full cast revealed
International reality stars, sporting legends, and genuine Australian TV royalty are among the celebs competing on the show this season.
Twelve eager celebrities entered the jungle on Sunday night for the season premiere of I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here, the first season to be filmed back in the South African bush for three years.
International reality stars, sporting legends, and genuine Australian TV royalty are among the celebs competing on the show this season. I met with many of them in their pre-show isolation in South Africa the day before filming started, and found a group of very nervous celebrities, eager for their adventure to start.
Domenica Calarco
2022 MAFS star Dom was at the centre of the show’s OnlyFans scandal last year, and said she was looking forward to appearing on a reality show with less drama.
“I’m actually excited about that fact that it‘s completely unfiltered, unedited. They don’t have time to manipulate storylines and whatever. So that’s something that really excites me about the show, actually,” she told me before entering the jungle.
And she’s in it to win it: Dom says she’s determined to take out the grand prize of $100,000 for her chosen charity the Leukaemia Foundation, having lost her uncle to a rare form of blood cancer five years ago.
Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickson
Former Australian Idol judge Dicko has lived a quiet life away from screens in recent years, and told me before entering the jungle that he was a big decision – one he’s still not quite sure he’ll live to regret.
“I‘ve made the long trek back to being a normal person. I really think I’ve washed fame and celebrity out of my hair, which is a big reason why I didn’t want to go on this show for a long time. Because I just thought it would derail me and I just didn’t think it was worth it,” he said.
Kerri-Anne Kennerley
KAK’s a big ‘get’ – one of several celebs this year that Ten’s head of entertainment Stephen Tate has been trying to snag ever since the show premiered nine seasons ago. This year, she finally said yes – for a lucrative deal that includes at least one special proviso. Announced on Sunday, she’ll actually be entering the competition during Monday’s episode.
Harry Garside
Lightweight boxer Garside’s appearance on the show was an early media leak back in February – thanks to his ex-trainer, who sensationally dropped him as a client, publicly announcing that Garside’s heart clearly wasn’t in boxing if he’d signed up to a reality show.
“I can understand his position completely, but I can also understand my position,” Garside told me, the first time he’d publicly spoken about it. “It‘s my life and my decisions. And we were walking in different directions and we wanted different things. So how can you get to the same destination if you want different things?”
Peter Helliar
As a longtime 10 personality, former Project panellist Helliar had fielded his fair share of requests to appear on I’m A Celeb over the years. Shortly after quitting The Project late last year, the call came again – and this time he had no excuse.
“I thought, if I say no to the first thing that comes across that‘s outside my comfort zone, I just didn’t like what that meant, heading into this new part of my career,” he told me.
Debra Lawrance
Acting veteran Debra is best-known to many around the world as Pippa from Home And Away – more recently, she had a starring role in the acclaimed series Please Like Me. Still a prolific working actor at 66, she’s possibly the only I’m A Celeb contestant in history to back up her appearance on the show with a starring role in a Melbourne Theatre Company production.
She said she’s had one simple philosophy throughout her varied career: Say yes to everything.
“I‘ve been on the planet too long not to do everything that’s offered. Also, I feel very strongly that everything counts as entertainment. Not everybody can go to the opera. Not everybody can even get out to see a movie,” she says.
“The TV in the corner of the lounge room is often a real escape for people who have had a hard day at work, or are a bit sad.”
Aesha Scott
Haven’t heard of her? She doesn’t blame you. This Kiwi-born reality star, who has appeared on several seasons of Below Deck, is under no illusions about her level of fame in this country.
“I am very aware that I‘m probably going to be the most Z-list celebrity going in,” she told me with a laugh, the day before entering the jungle.
But she’s ready to win Australia over, and she was refreshingly honest about her reasoning for taking part in the show: She said she wants to grow her following in Oz, with dreams to parlay her reality TV fame elsewhere into a TV presenting gig in this country.
“The reason that I‘m doing all of this TV stuff is my dream is to become a TV host. So I would really love to grow my following in Australia because I think it would be a really cool place to get my first hosting jobs.”
Nathan Henry
Another in the slew of Geordie Shore contestants who’ve appeared on I’m A Celeb, UK reality star Henry, 31, is witty, gregarious and openly gay. Many Aussie viewers might not have heard of him – but then, the same could be said for fellow Geordie Shore stars Charlotte Crosby and Vicki Pattinson, and they were both highlights of their respective seasons.
Woody Whitelaw
The first celebrity to be announced, Whitelaw – one-half of radio duo Will and Woody – should bring a cheeky energy to camp. He’s already been spilling some of the show’s secrets as he recorded his last radio shows from isolation in South Africa, revealing he has to be chaperoned to go to the bathroom, and that he’s been trying to crack the code names the production team are using to refer to the other celebs.
Anna Polyviou
This award-winning pastry chef with the instantly identifiable shock of bright pink hair has been a regular guest judge on MasterChef over the years.
Adam Cooney
This 37-year-old retired AFL star played for the Western Bulldogs and Essendon, and won the Brownlow Medal in 2008.
Bianca Hunt
One of this season’s up-and-coming celebs, twenty something Hunt is a broadcaster, presenter, and the founder of AGNT Blak, an Aboriginal owned and operated talent agency dedicated to booking First Nations talent.
Liz Ellis
This retired netball champ has parlayed her successful sporting career into various roles in the media in recent years. Always a great panellist on The Project, she’ll no doubt have some interesting stories to tell at camp.
I’m A Celeb continues 7:30pm Monday on Ten.
Nick Bond travelled to South Africa as a guest of Ten.
