I’m A Celeb 2021: Ten boss explains how evictions will be decided

I’m A Celeb was prerecorded late last year meaning live voting won’t happen. So how did the show decide who to eliminate each week?

The big question about I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! has finally been answered.

It’s been well documented that the current season of the reality show was prerecorded late last year in Australia.

Given that fact, many viewers have wondered how the voting and eliminations will work given the public won’t be able to vote for their favourites.

Speaking to news.com.au, Network Ten’s head of entertainment and factual programs Stephen Tate explained: “We have devised a very funny, very fair system for deciding who will do the trials and the challenges. It may or may not involve a mythical wombat called ‘Warren the Wombat of Winternet Wisdom’,” he laughed.

News.com.au understands that for every elimination episode, the celebrities compete in two challenges. The first one is an all in (featuring all the celebrities in camp) which whittles them down to a bottom three. The bottom three then compete in a second challenge and whoever comes in third place gets the boot.

That system will continue until there are just a few celebrities remaining in camp.

“The most important thing to realise is that Australia will decide the winner,” Mr Tate told news.com.au. “The ending will be live.”

So far 10 celebrities have been unveiled on I’m A Celeb: Travis Varcoe, Ash Williams, Grant Denyer, Jack Vidgen, Paulini, Jess Eva, Mel Buttle, Toni Pearen, Abbie Chatfield and Dipper.

Another celebrity is set to enter the camp on Tuesday night.

Mr Tate told news.com.au that this year’s cast got on with one another better than any previous season.

“There’s probably less conflict on this series but I think that’s probably a good thing given the current environment,” he said. “We kind of noticed it after the first week or so that the cast had gelled in a way that perhaps that other casts didn’t quite do or took longer to do.”

Two camp mates got on particularly well, with Mr Tate confirming there was an on-set fling.

“I can tell you there is a romance but I can’t give you any more detail,” he said.

“We try for that every year, that is the holy grail of making reality television, to have a romance.”

Rumour has it the romance was between Abbie and Ash.

I’m A Celeb continues tonight on Channel 10 at 7.30pm
