Evicted I’m A Celeb star Domenica Calarco has revealed more details about her explosive on-air fight with Kerri-Anne Kennerley, after calling her the C-word on TV.
EXCLUSIVE
Domenica Calarco has revealed she reached out to Kerri-Anne Kennerley to apologise for calling her the C-word on national TV.
The outspoken MAFS star, who emerged as a red-hot favourite on this season of Ten’s I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! before her shock elimination on Monday night, has spoken about her fiery clash with the TV queen in an exclusive interview with news.com.au.
The explosive confrontation, which aired two weeks ago, saw Calarco slam Kennerley for refusing to take part in a food trial challenge, telling the broadcast veteran she had “no respect” and that she’d never met anyone “so selfish”.
Fellow celeb Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickson revealed after his exit last week that Calarco had also called Kennerley a “c**t” in scenes that didn’t make it to air.
Calarco confirmed she did indeed drop the C-bomb, conceding her language during the encounter was “unacceptable”.
She also privately asked producers to pass on an apology to Kennerley, who abruptly left the jungle after just three days following the clash.
“I haven’t spoken to her personally because I was in the jungle but I had passed on a message to her,” Calarco told us.
“I have apologised for my language, it was unbecoming. I wouldn’t use that language again, now that I’m fed.
“But in the heat of the moment, I was struggling mentally. The sleep deprivation, the food deprivation, it gets to you. So for me, it was a culmination of all of that.
“I’m not proud of the language, but I stand by how I felt. And I still feel that [way].”
Despite the explosive scenes, Calarco admitted she was surprised by the star’s decision to bail.
“I kind of thought KAK had a little bit more in her. I didn’t think she’d throw in the towel,” she said, before adding one final blow, “[But] she did have to get back to Port Douglas on April 22 for a golf tournament, so …”
Calarco said Kennerley’s refusal to attempt any of the difficult challenges in order to “get her campmates fed” became the source of her frustrations, and ultimately, her outburst.
“KAK was constantly getting voted in [to do challenges] because people wanted to see her push herself out of her comfort zone, but before we even headed in, she was adamant she wasn’t going to try,” she said.
“And I was terrified of the food challenges, I have a phobia of vomiting, it was my nightmare fuel situation, but I knew I was going to try because we needed to bring home stars, everyone was starving.
“You’ve got to be selfless, it’s not about you, it’s about feeding everyone. So it was that frustration of knowing we were gonna get nowhere with her.”
Now that she’s had a proper night’s sleep and a meal – vegemite toast was her first choice – Calarco said she would happily bury the hatchet if Kennerley was open to reconciliation.
“[If I saw her] I’d say, ‘I’d love to get a Pinot gris with you, my shout,’” she said.
“Obviously she’s no longer in Africa but if the chance comes up I’d happily have a chat with her.”
The fight in question saw Calarco bring up the make-up clause in Kennerley’s contract – which meant she’d been allowed to break the rules and bring cosmetics into camp.
“Miss big contract lady, ‘Can’t tell me what to do.’ I don’t want your [make-up], I don’t want your Revlon 1989 lipstick, doll. It’s not fair – it’s not fair to everyone in there who actually tries,” Calarco said at the time. “Why are you here, bro? Legit, actually, why are you here?”
“I probably don’t have to answer anything to you,” Kennerley said back.
“Of course you don’t! Because your little contract states it,” Calarco shot back. “Literally no respect or decency for anyone else but yourself.
“I’ve never met anyone so selfish in all my life.”
As for Dicko, who spilt her secret in the media following his departure last week, Calarco said she was “yet to talk to him” about outing the explicit details.
“Gotta love Dicko for stealing my limelight,” she said, laughing.
While many viewers thought Calarco would make it to the end, the reality star said she was satisfied with having survived 25 days in the jungle.
Now, she’s focused on her podcast Sit With Us with fellow MAFS alum Ella Ding, and wants to write a book.
“I’ve found a new love of wanting to look after my body and eat well, so I’m going to get into boxing, I’ve been trained by [fellow camp mate] Harry [Garside]. So, I can’t wait to catch up with him,” she said.
“I just want to live life to the fullest. I’ve unlocked a new found confidence within myself that no experience other than jungle life could’ve given me. I really, truly believe that.
“I didn’t think I had it in me. So for me, it’s straight back into conquering life.”
