Ash Williams: I’m A Celebrity star pleads not guilty to sex picture charge following show afterparty
Ash Williams partied with the I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! crew the night before his first court date over a sex picture charge.
Comedian and reality TV contestant Ash Williams was out partying with the I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! crew the night before pleading not guilty to recording an intimate image of a woman without her consent.
The 38-year-old, who starred on the most recent season of the hit show, was charged in December over an allegation he secretly took screenshots while having phone sex with a woman.
Lawyer Lauren MacDougall entered a not guilty plea on Mr William’s behalf in Newtown Local Court on Monday morning.
Mr Williams, usually represented by solicitor Charles Abbott, was not required to appear.
The plea was entered hours after a raucous afterparty with fellow stars wrapped up following the I’m A Celebrity finale on Network 10 on Sunday night.
The season was won by former Bachelor contestant Abbie Chatfield, with TV presenter Grant Denyer the runner up.
Other contestants included the singer Paulini and former AFL player Travis Varcoe.
Mr Williams was one of seven celebrities still in the running at the time of the finale, but was eliminated first among those remaining.
He told the Sunday Telegraph earlier this year that he was “blindsided” by the charge and would fight it.
“I’m really upset by the allegation and I’m distressed about the impact it’s had on members of my family, particularly my mum,” he said.
Police have also taken out an interim AVO against Mr Williams on behalf of the woman, who cannot be named.
The matter will return to court on March 23.
