I Am … Roxy! Why Oliver Curtis was against Roxy Jacenko’s reality show

Roxy Jacenko’s highly anticipated reality show airs tonight, but the PR Queen has revealed her husband Oliver Curtis didn’t want to make it.

Roxy Jacenko has revealed why her husband was against the idea of letting cameras document their lives for a reality show.

I Am … Roxy!, which airs tonight on Channel 10, was conceived by Nova radio host Michael “Wippa” Wipfli. He pitched the concept to Jacenko but was initially turned down.

“At the time, Oliver (Jacenko’s husband) was in jail, she had breast cancer, I think she’d been hooking up with an ex and she’s a parent at the same time,” Wippa told news.com.au. “She said, ‘I just can’t at the moment. But do me a favour, call me back every month until I say yes’. Month by month I called and finally she said, ‘OK, I’m in!’”

So why did Jacenko keep rejecting Wippa’s offer?

“That was Oli’s fault,” Jacenko told news.com.au about her husband who was convicted of insider trading in 2016.

“He said no. Oli is shy. He was very nervous about doing it and you can see that in the show. He’s not overly confident in that arena. For me, I don’t know any different.

“He was a bit anti it but at the end of the day he was like, ‘It’s your choice’.”

There’s another reason Jacenko’s husband might not have been keen to let cameras into their lives. I Am … Roxy! gives viewers an insight into how he’s treated by his PR Queen wife, who hurls profanities at him throughout the episode.

“I rouse on Oli quite a lot but I think that dynamic comes from the fact that we live together, work together and we’ve been through a hell of a lot together,” Jacenko told news.com.au.

“People will probably say, ‘Oh she’s such a f***ing bitch,’ but you know what? It’s life. That’s the day-to-day trials and tribulations of living and working together. Marriage is not easy.”

Jacenko admitted to news.com.au she also had a few concerns about starring in her own reality show, the first being money.

“If I’m not going to make serious money I’m not going to do it,” the PR pro told news.com.au.

“Everything that I do that takes me out of the office I have to quantify in terms of the revenue. I’m not good at maths but I know what I need to live and if I’m out of the office it costs me money because mistakes happen.”

The second concern Jacenko had was giving people a glimpse into how she runs her Sweaty Betty PR Company.

“I thought, ‘Do I want to give away my secrets in running my business?’” she told news.com.au. “But then at the same time, you’re not me. Even if I give the secrets away, there’s nothing to say that you’re actually going to be able to do it.”

Jacenko is a polarising figure, and she’s well aware she’ll be on the receiving end of a lot of social media negativity when her reality show airs tonight.

Asked if she has a message for her haters, Jacenko didn’t hesitate.

“Yeah, f**k off!” she said with a laugh.
