Hamish and Andy spill on their new TV travel series

The popular comedy duo claim they came “close to dying” during filming for their hilarious new TV series.

Hamish and Andy discover teen genius

Hamish Blake and Andy Lee have opened up about their hair-raising adventures during filming for their new TV travel series, joking that it saw them come “close to dying”.

Speaking at Nine’s annual post-Logies brunch, the comedy duo explained that unlike many other travel shows, Hamish and Andy’s Perfect Holiday wasn’t exactly a luxury getaway.

The concept saw Hamish and Andy take turns in surprising each other with a new travel adventure every day across three weeks in a variety of locations.

“Sometimes it was a massive stitch-up, obviously, and other times it was a genuine adventure,” Hamish said.

Unsurprisingly, their adventures turned pretty hairy at times.

“One day we came close to dying,” Hamish joked, referencing a promo clip which aired before his speech, which showed a car plummeting off a cliff.

“We were in that car (before it fell), and a guy drove a forklift through the side of it as a joke. In Australia, we don’t do a lot of ‘forklift through the window’ gear, but in Alaska, it’s one of the funniest jokes you can do. We learned a lot.”

Last month, the former radio hosts revealed on Instagram that they’d be embarking on their third travel show for Nine, following the success of Hamish and Andy’s Gap Year and Caravan of Courage.

And while True Story with Hamish and Andy is not returning in 2019 — Nine has made it clear that it’s only on a break at this stage.

To prevent either one of them getting the short end of the stick on Perfect Holiday, Hamish and Andy had their producers vet the activities to make sure they were on even footing — although Andy admitted he still felt nervous ahead of each new surprise.

“Leading up to it, we were at opposite ends of the office at our computers, and I’d look up and see Hamish smiling and be like, ‘oh s**t, he’s got something for me’,” he said.

Hamish added: “But luckily our producers knew both sides of what we were doing, so they were able to make sure it wasn’t Andy going, ‘oh, we’re going to a flower festival today’, and me going, ‘right, well you’re chopping off your hand as part of a debt to the mafia’.”

During the Nine event, it was also confirmed that the wildly popular Lego Masters, hosted by Hamish, would be returning for season two.

Without giving too much else away about their new show, the hosts did mention that fans would also witness their attempt to “harvest an iceberg”.

“We went out to these glaciers in a boat in Alaska, to melt (an iceberg) down in our hotel room and bottle it and take it to LA to sell as ultra premium glacial water,” Andy explained.

The result?

“I won’t tell you how it ended, but yeah, we’re not in the water business … We’re still in TV.”

Hamish and Andy’s Perfect Holiday is set to air later this year on Nine.
