One of The Voice’s most impressive singers to date took to the stage during the latest round of blind auditions, triggering a desperate war between the coaches eager to snap them up.

Melbourne’s Maree Mamalis, 17, was the final contestant to perform on Tuesday night’s episode, delivering a powerful rendition of Billie Eilish’s hit song Listen Before I Go.

Maree started off softly, earning the early attention of Rita Ora who quickly turned her chair. About halfway through the song, she belted out a flurry of high notes which saw Jess Mauboy, Guy Sebastian and Jason Derulo all slam their buttons.

After her performance, Guy kicked off the pitch for Maree – still visibly shaking from what he’d just witnessed.

“Oh my goodness. What on earth just happened?! You look so sweet, and then that thing comes out of you that is so big and strong,” Guy said.

“Going for those big notes is so difficult. Having the courage to do that, that is what sets an incredible audition apart from a safe one. You threw everything at that... you left nothing behind.”

He continued, “You are obviously amazing. Obviously, I would love you to be on my team.”

Cue Derulo, who slyly activated his ‘block’ button – meaning Maree was unable to choose Guy. The coaches each get one block per season.

Jason Derulo launched his first and only block.

Host Sonia Kruger looked shocked by the move, as did both Jess and Rita.

Taken aback, Guy said, “You just did that? Wow … Maree I’ve just been blocked, FYI. Which really sucks.”

Derulo giggled at Guy’s reaction, declaring his block maneoveur “felt good”.

On side-stage, Sonia was standing with Maree’s mother, who revealed her daughter wanted to go with Team Guy.

Then, it was Rita’s turn to fight.

“I turned around first. And I also won last season. You just killed that audition, honey,” she said.

“You twisted [the song] and made it your own, artistically, that’s really impressive.”

A salty Guy then chimed in, “Jason, she’s trying to connect …”

“Shut up!” Rita swiftly shouted back.

After triggering the block, it’s safe to say Jason had a solid pitch up his sleeve.

“I was promised there would be amazing talent in Australia. And I have been blown away so early,” he said.

“You are a shining light that needs to be shown all over the world, and I just would love to be a part of that journey.

“I’m through and through such a fan. I think if you come onto Team Jason, we can have a lot of fun telling your story, and taking you and becoming the biggest artist in the world.”

Ultimately, Maree was won over by the US singer, opting to go on Team Jason.

The Voice returns to Channel 7 on Sunday at 7pm
