Gogglebox households trash Ellen DeGeneres in brutal viewing

The cast of Gogglebox Australia weren’t too impressed with Ellen DeGeneres’ return to TV, trashing the daytime television host.

Ellen’s celeb friends come to her rescue

Ellen DeGeneres’ return to TV came with a lot of mixed reviews, but it’s safe to say that the households of Gogglebox Australia weren’t buying her apology.

During Wednesday night’s episode, 90 per cent of the households trashed Ellen’s attempted apology, saying it didn’t really hit the mark.

“Don’t look her in the eyes bro, don’t look her in the eyes,” joked Milo to his mate Nic, referencing claims about Ellen’s alleged misconduct.

The narrator explained why Ellen was forced to open her newest season with an apology: “The Ellen Show was plagued with controversy, after allegations emerged of bullying, and misconduct in the workplace.”

“People who have worked for her are saying she’s the meanest person in the world,” said Isabelle.

Reading an article off her phone, Sarah said: “According to this source, DeGeneres has a sensitive nose and if she thinks you smell that day you need to go home and shower.”

As Ellen makes her way through the apology, cracking jokes the entire way through, the households became more vocal about how they were feeling.

“See she talks about it, then she stops and makes a joke,” Lee said with disdain.

Millie Dalton explains how, “It undermines the meaning of the apology when you’re just cracking jokes.”

One of Gogglebox’snewest members, Chantal Bakac said, “I feel awkward, I feel awkward watching it.”

“This is super awkward, knowing everyone is watching and hating you, then you have to get up there and apologise and you’re obviously not really sorry,” Matty Fahd explained.

After the apology wrapped up, the patriarch of Dalton family wasn’t left too impressed.

“She’s not addressing the hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of workplace complaints about her being nasty. When not one but 300 people complain, maybe there’s a smell there.”

Matty joked, “Clap people or she’s going to kill us all.”

“I don’t know if I buy it. Actions speak louder than words,” concluded Chantal.

Ellen and her production team came under fire earlier this year with claims of a toxic work environment behind the scenes of her daytime show.

DeGeneres even directly addressed the “no eye contact” rule reportedly enforced on her employees, denying she was the one behind it.

Three senior producers were given their marching orders from The Ellen DeGeneres Show in the wake of damning allegations of racial insensitivity, sexual misconduct and a toxic workplace culture.

After her apology aired, former employees slammed the TV host.

“Not only did Ellen turn my trauma, turn our traumas, into a joke, she somehow managed to make this about her,” one former employee told BuzzFeed News.

“When she said, ‘Oh, my summer was great’ and that was supposed to be funny, I thought, ‘It’s funny that you had a rough summer because everyone was calling out all of the allegations of your toxic work environment and now you’re the one suffering?’” another former employee said.

They also said they felt insulted by DeGeneres’ “inappropriate jokes” scattered throughout her monologue given that people had come forward and levelled allegations of sexual misconduct against her former producers.

“When you’re talking about people who have accused her leadership of the seriousness of sexual misconduct, I don’t think it’s appropriate to have jokes in the monologue,” a former employee told the outlet.
