Farmer Wants a Wife star Sam Messina has strongly denied seven alleged domestic violence offences against a former girlfriend.

A Current Affair reported the bombshell allegations last night that Messina, 24, had been previously arrested and charged with four counts of assault as well as one count each of harassment, stalking and unlawful entry.

The ex-girlfriend, who was not named by ACA, says she was in a relationship with Messina from January 2019 and moved in with him in December that same year.

She claims that it was at this time that he allegedly became physically and verbally abusive towards her.

On July 31, last year police alleged that Messina pushed his then-girlfriend and punched her in the nose, causing it to bleed. He allegedly also refused to let her leave the house until she agreed not to go to the police.

In another alleged incident in March last year, police say Messina opened a door and hit her foot, causing pain in two toes.

Then in July last year, Messina allegedly grabbed the woman by her clothes, before throwing her onto the ground.

In November, Messina was accused of whipping his phone charger against her inner thigh.

In February this year, Messina allegedly took the woman’s two pet rabbits and threatened to sell or kill them before blocking her on all social media. She says she eventually was able to contact him and that he eventually gave back her pets.

An apprehended domestic violence order was taken out against Messina for a period of two years, and he is due to appear in court in September.

A lawyer for the Farmer Wants A Wife star said Messina has “no criminal history” and rejects the claims made against him.

“He has never previously been charged with any criminal offence. He has always strongly denied the allegations and co-operated with police in their investigation,” they said in a statement. “Mr Messina wishes to make no further comment whilst the proceedings are before the Court.”

Channel 7 told A Current Affair they did not know about the allegations before casting Messina on the show.

“We understand the allegations are being strongly defended and we would not wish to – and cannot – pre-empt the court’s decision,” a spokesman said.

Messina has attracted some controversy while appearing on the reality show with claims he is a truck driver and not a farmer at all, and also that he had a secret girlfriend while filming.

The 24-year-old took to Instagram last week to reject those claims as well.
