Ellen’s awkward moment: Talk show host forgets Katy Perry was married

ELLEN refused to believe Katy Perry when she mentioned that she was married once and grilled her for details as the singer cringed.

ELLEN completely forgot that Katy Perry was married once and it made for a rather awkward moment.

The singer dropped by Ellen’s talk show to promote her upcoming album, Witness, and as she often does the comedian had a fun game for her guest to play.

Ellen explained the game was called Will You Perry Me? and it’s aim was to find the singer a boyfriend.

Do I have to get married ... again!” Katy Perry asked Ellen.

The talk show host stared at Perry in confusion and said quietly, “You were not married”.

“I was when I was 25,” Perry told her.

“Were you?” asked a disbelieving Ellen.

“Yeah, it’s been a long time honey,” Perry said sassily.

“To who?” Ellen asked.

Clearly desperate to move on, Perry made a joke about how she has hardly aged, saying, “No wrinkles, no lines”.

But Ellen wasn’t willing to move on just yet, again asking, “To who?”

“His name is Russell Brand!” Perry told Ellen.

“Oh that’s right, I forgot about Russell,” Ellen said.

An embarrassed Perry then made the “cut” action with her fingers and Ellen assured her, “that’ll be cut out”.

“Yeah right,” Perry said sarcastically.

If your memory’s a bit hazy as well, Katy Perry was married to Russell Brand for 14 months between 2010 to 2011.

In 2013 Perry spoke about the marriage breakup to Vogue and said, “Let’s just say I haven’t heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011”.

The singer admitted that she was on the road a lot during their marriage but told Vogue she always invited Brand to travel with her.

“At first when I met him, he wanted an equal, and I think a lot of times strong men do want an equal, but then they get that equal and they’re like, I can’t handle the equalness,” she said.

“He didn’t like the atmosphere of me being the boss on tour. So that was really hurtful, and it was very controlling, which was upsetting.

“I felt a lot of responsibility for it ending, but then I found out the real truth, which I can’t necessarily disclose because I keep it locked in my safe for a rainy day. I let go and I was like: This isn’t because of me; this is beyond me. So I have moved on from that.”
