Bride and Prejudice returns: Is this Australia’s worst mother-in-law?
This furious mother-in-law to be says would rather see her daughter “alone” than with the “moron” she’s about to marry.
A furious mother-in-law to be declares she’d rather see her daughter “alone” than with the “moron” she’s about to marry, in an explosive preview for the next season of Seven’s Bride & Prejudice.
Loved-up couple Tori, 28 and James, 34, have been engaged for almost three years and will soon marry. The pair have very different backgrounds — Tori comes from a well-off family, while tatted-up tradie James doesn’t.
Enter Tori’s mother, Mary-Ann, who “isn’t happy” at the prospect of their impending nuptials.
“Me and Tori, we love each other …” James begins, pleading his case.
“IT’S TORI AND I. USE THE ENGLISH WORDS PROPERLY,” Mary-Ann bellows.
“James doesn’t fit into our family at all. My ideal son-in-law would be a professional person. I see this as my last-ditch effort to help my daughter,” she continues.
In separate scenes, both Tori and James flee conversations with Mary-Ann, overcome with frustration.
Another confrontation has Mary-Ann declaring to James that she’s “jotted down a few rules” — presumably for him to abide by if he marries her daughter. “I’m not a child,” he tells her.
Mary-Anne says James is “a moron” and adds, “I would rather see her alone.”
And while it’s “a mum’s biggest dream being at your daughter’s wedding,” Mary-Anne says she doubts she’ll be in attendance for Tori and James’ big day.
Viewers have been shocked by the warring families on display in previous seasons of the reality series — including a mother who refused to acknowledge her gay son’s wedding, and a father who told his happily partnered up lesbian daughter it would be a relief if she didn’t have children because she would “f**k their heads up”.
Bride & Prejudice: The Forbidden Weddings comes to Seven soon.
