Block couple’s dummy spit: ‘I hate it here and I want to leave’

The Block is wreaking havoc on one couple this year – and they seem perilously close to being the second team to quit the show.

'I want to leave’: Block couple’s dummy spit

The Block underdogs Sharon and Ankur have made no secret of their difficulties adjusting to life on the show – and during Sunday’s episode, they appeared perilously close to quitting.

It was late in the evening on the night before their second room reveal – and tensions were fraught after the couple came dead last in bathroom week.

Working through the night to get their guest bedroom ready, Sharon once again voiced her frustrations with life on The Block.

Painting and venting – it’s important to multitask on The Block.

As Ankur explained, his wife was starting to spiral as she thought about the seemingly insurmountable task ahead, completing their entire home renovation within a gruelling 12 weeks.

“I’m really not enjoying it, and I haven’t enjoyed it. This whole thing is so hectic,” she said.

“And then all I can see is my future, of 10, 11 more weeks of this. I used to be a really bubbly, happy person, and then a week ago I came on The Block.

Ankur encouraged her to look at the positives of their experience, which didn’t go down well.

“Tell me one positive thing about all this? Tell me,” she said.

Her husband told her that if she was really having a “breakdown,” they should just leave the show.

“I want to leave!” she insisted. “No hot showers, there is no heating, mud … I do hate it here.”

“We’re going to have to figure it out,” Ankur told her. “I think we leave.”

It was a surprising statement, particularly when another couple already quit this season just two days into filming, in what was a Block first.

And the pair were both on edge as they awaited the judges’ feedback for their second room, with Sharon fretting that she didn’t know what she’d do if their efforts were trashed for a second week in a row.

“We’re both worried about how it’s going to make me feel, if we get negative feedback from the judges this week. That’s a rabbit hole I don’t want to go down … I don’t want to feel like that again,” she said.

Thankfully, the judges loved their guest bedroom.

Crisis averted: The judges loved their “much-improved” room and declared them “back in the game,” with only a few small critiques.

That positive feedback – plus the extra-point gnome they won in a challenge earlier in the week – combined to see them win the week, scoring 27 points and $10,000 for their efforts. Good news, but is it enough to keep them on the show for the next 10 weeks?
