Big Brother 2014: Ryan wins $200,000 as Skye vows to go single

SHE had more romances in the Big Brother house than any other contestant. But after last night’s finale, 3rd-place Skye reckons she’s going cold turkey on love.

WITH a cool $200,000 in his bank account, Big Brother winner Ryan Ginns says his life has forever changed after becoming the last man standing at the end of 80 days in the television house.

The 26-year-old beat out fellow finalists Travis Lunardi and Skye Wheatley-Young in last night’s nailbiter finale, but with a moment to pause he said reality had started to sink in.

While he originally pledged to put the money towards opening a bar if he won, Ginns said he would now consider his options and spend the cash prize more wisely.

“I just need to find my head space because I’m not thinking about the money right now — I’m thinking about catching up with friends, seeing my family and that sort of thing,” Ginns said.

One thing the money will allow the Sydney based graphic designer to do is visit his family in Queensland more often, especially to spend time with his mother, who has multiple sclerosis.

He and his parents had an emotional reunion after he was crowned winner, and he said they were never far from his mind.

“Dad wrote me a letter not too long ago. It was quite serious — normally he’s quite humorous — and he said her MS wasn’t going so well, so I was worried.

“I was shocked to see her (last night) — she looks really well. She has a glow to her. She was diagnosed about seven years ago now. Before that she had epilepsy, so I’ve grown up with her being unwell.

“It’s tough. Sometimes I feel guilty because I’m in Sydney and mum and dad are on the Sunshine Coast. I think it’ll make it a lot easier for me to come to and from Sydney when I want to.”

Runner up Lunardi, 24, said he still felt like a winner after falling for fellow housemate Aisha McKinnon, and was looking forward to spending time with her away from the cameras.

“I’m not someone to get into a relationship for the sake of it,” he said.

“I never thought I’d meet a girl who I’d want to spend a lot of time with ... but she is something else. She’s level headed, cool, calm and collected ... she’s my ideal girl.”

The two now have a lot to talk about, given he lives in Melbourne and she’s settled in Sydney.

“There are things to sort out obviously. My football, my work, my family and my friends are all there so to walk away from the most important things in my life would be massive.

“But my feelings for her are also massive so I’m keen to work something out.”

For bubbly blonde bombshell Wheatley-Young, the Big Brother experience was mostly about finding herself and going outside her comfort zone.

“I feel more mature and I have learnt so much about myself,” she said.

One thing that’s unlikely to eventuate from her three months inside the house is an ongoing relationship with intruder Leo, real name Ryan Burke.

“I think true colours start to show and maybe the first impression you have of someone doesn’t turn out to be what you thought it was,” she said,

“He’s so dirty on me. There’s so much gossip I’ve heard. I do think it’d be best for me to be single for a while.”

This year’s season of the Channel Nine reality series saw 22 contestants enter the Dreamworld compound.

While it delivered mostly lacklustre ratings for Nine, it wasn’t short on drama or scandal.

On top of a whopping six intruders, a few shock stunts, many trying challenges and plenty of confrontations, two of last year’s most popular contestants, Ben Zabel and winner Tim Dormer, were sent in to shake things up.

But the biggest talking point was a raunchy cheating scandal between Lawson Reeve and Cat Law.

The pair hooked up despite knowing his long-term girlfriend was watching at home and their shameless dalliance made headlines across the country.

The finale was preceded by Tuesday night’s mega eviction, which saw late intruders Lina Grant and Penny Higgs booted along with original housemate Priya Malik.

Last night’s live show was followed by a glitzy cast and crew party in Surfers Paradise where all of the contestants were reunited.
