Beloved Gogglebox Australia star Emmie Silbery reunites with cast amid dementia diagnosis

The Gogglebox Australia cast has reunited with beloved grandma Emmie Silbery for the first time since her shock dementia diagnosis.

There was a heartwarming reunion over the weekend when some of the Gogglebox Australia cast gathered around beloved grandma Emmie Silbery amid her ongoing battle with dementia.

The castmates were all hugs and smiles when they saw the 94-year-old TV star for the first time since she stepped away from the Foxtel program last year following her devastating diagnosis.

A sweet clip of the reunion was shared on social media, showing Emmie being showered with affection from co-stars including Tim Lai – who appears on the show with sister Leanne – and Faye Kontos – who sits on the famed Gogglebox couch with best friend Anastasia Katselas.

Married couple Keith and Lee Riley were also present at the reunion with the pair sharing the clip on Instagram.

“It was great to see our darling Emmie again,” they wrote alongside footage of Keith hugging Emmie.

It was their first meeting since her diagnosis.

The Melbourne couple first appeared on the show in 2015 with Emmie and her daughter Kerry Silbery and granddaughter Isabelle Silbery making their debut one year later.

Sadly in February 2023, almost seven years and 14 seasons after they became couch critics, the close-knit Silbery clan announced Emmie would not be joining them on the show in 2023 due to her dementia diagnosis.

Emmie first appeared on Gogglebox with daughter Kerry and granddaughter Isabelle in 2016.

“We are sad to announce that Emmie won’t be joining us on the couch for Gogglebox Australia this season,” they posted on Instagram at the time.

“It’s been a very challenging time for our family and we’ve had to make some difficult decisions. Emmie has been diagnosed with dementia and we wanted to be transparent about this as many families experience it.

“Emmie will be watching and rest assured she’s happy and being cared for.”

Emmie met her great-grandchild for the first time in December.

While Emmie has stayed out of the spotlight since, she did make a brief cameo on Isabelle’s Instagram in December after the birth of her daughter, Ruby, who is named after a very important person in Emmie’s life.

In a touching video, Isabelle could be seen introducing her newborn daughter to her beloved grandmother for the first time.

“My heart explodes. Ruby was the name of Emmie’s Aunty who adopted her when she was orphaned at age of 9. She saved Emmie from the horrible orphanages back in those days and cared for her like she was her own daughter,” Isabelle wrote in the caption on Instagram.

“I hope our Ruby inherits generations of maternal resilience and Emmie’s cheeky sense of humour.”
