Bad edit? Not for this contestant on Australian Survivor, as the merge happens on the Channel 10 reality show

The merge is happening on Australian Survivor on Sunday night, and one contestant is getting a lot of air time - and he loves it.

IT can be a rare thing in reality television, that a contestant is happy with the way they have been edited, but that’s exactly the case for Australian Survivor’s Locklan Gilbert.

The 27-year-old adventure guide from Perth told News Corp that he has no problem whatsoever with the way he is being portrayed.

“It’s been amazing to watch,” he said.

“I thought it would be weird, but because I was 100 per cent myself, and I wasn’t trying to hide anything, it’s great.

“People are like - that’s just Lockie, this is how I am.”

Tonight Australian Survivor will reveal the all important merge, when the Asaga and Samatau tribes become one.

A real physical threat, Gilbert has managed to use that to his advantage, to make to 35 days on the gruelling reality show that is filmed in Samoa.

“I think being a physical threat and such an asset around camp has actually really helped me out,” he said.

“I really wanted to play on that.

“If I came across as a big strategic threat, they would have been like, let’s git rid of him.

“But now the merge is here, this is where I recall come to play.”

Gilbert described the moment the tribes merged as euphoric, but that didn’t last long.

“We kind of knew the numbers were getting down pretty small, and it was definitely coming,” Gilbert said of the merge.

“As soon as Jonathan said drop your buffs, this is when the game really starts.

“Everyone was so excited, hugging each other,” he said.

“But then you realise, that this person you are hugging is someone you are going to have to vote out.”

There have been some whispers Gilbert - who has many fans out there - was going to be a candidate to be Channel 10s next bachelor on The Bachelor.

However he confirmed this is unlikely, as he has a girlfriend named Jordan.

“I’ve heard that going around a little bit, but I don’t think my girlfriend would like me on that show too much.”

Australian Survivor is on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights at 7.30pm.
