Survivor star breaks down over bombshell news from home

In emotional scenes, Australian Survivor contestant Josh was given unexpected news from home that left him sobbing on-camera.

There was a bombshell buried amid the letters from home that contestants opened on Sunday night’s episode of Survivor, with one tribemate receiving news that brought everyone to tears.

Airline pilot Josh Millgate opened a letter from his fiance Saige – and a picture of an ultrasound fell out.

News he was never expecting.

Josh and his partner had been preparing to start a family.

He immediately burst into tears, as did the other contestants when the realisation dawned on them: Josh was discovering he was going to be a father.

“To my dearest Josh, your dream has come true and you’re going to be a dad. I’m nine weeks pregnant,” Saige wrote in the letter.

Speaking to camera, Josh gave some context as to why the news was so unexpected. The couple were about to start IVF before he left for Survivor, but during one of the initial tests, doctors discovered Saige had a “big” cyst on an ovary.

Josh breaks down as the news sinks in.

“Later on in the letter, Saige revealed that it turned out she had in fact been pregnant during those initial tests.

“I’m counting down the days until you come home, but don’t come home any sooner than is expected because now you have a baby to win for,” the letter continued.

And there’s a happy update seeing as this season of Survivor was filmed in October last year – all is going well and Josh and Saige’s baby is due in late May:

The contestants’ letters from home came after an auction earlier in the episode, where they could bid for luxury items. Contestant Shay was actually the sole winner of the letter from home, bidding $200 – but then Survivor host Jonathan Lapaglia gave her a tricky ultimatum. She could take her letter as planned, or forgo hers and every other contestant would then receive theirs.

For Shay, it was a no-brainer – although the decision did leave her in tears.

“I think I’d actually be happier to see you all reading your letters, rather than just me crying over mine,” she said.
