Triple M suspends Andrew Jarman after making shocking comment on radio
TRIPLE M announcer and former AFL star Andrew Jarman has been suspended by the broadcaster after his shocking comments about women accidentally went to air.
FORMER AFL star Andrew Jarman has been suspended by Triple M after making a shocking comment about women that accidentally went to air.
On his Adelaide drive show — The Rush Hour with Jars and Louie — he made the graphic and sexual comment while talking about “pressure points” in women.
“Just f*** the guts out of ‘em with your big c**k,” he said.
The comment went to air after 5pm on Wednesday afternoon.
The final hour of the program was prerecorded and producers forgot to edit out the comments.
In an interview with Today Tonight that aired Thursday evening, Jarman explained the “stupid” comment was directed at Port Adelaide captain Domenic Cassisi — whose wife is pregnant.
“We were in the studio and his (Domenic Cassisi’s) wife is due to give birth,” he said.
“So Dale Lewis (his co-host) and I thought we’d give him some advice on some early childhood tips to bring the birth along quicker.
“So I threw out there what my advice and tips were that I used with my lovely wife Marion with our three children and … it … yeah. the words came out.
“They were stupid — it was stupid what I said.”
Jarman added he doesn’t “represent that side of things” and is “very respectful of women”.
After the slip-up was broadcast, Jarman returned to the studio and apologised on-air.
“I’m very remorseful for the language that went through the airwaves,” he told listeners.
Triple M Adelaide released a statement Thursday afternoon saying it “deeply regrets and apologises for the broadcast of inappropriate material yesterday afternoon”.
“The editing of the material prior to broadcast did not occur due to human error.
“An on-air apology was broadcast during the program. In addition, Andrew Jarman has been suspended by Triple M Adelaide as of this afternoon.”
