Triple M producer inundated with romantic calls after his number was posted on Facebook by show hosts
A FACEBOOK gag led to a radio show staffer being inundated with hundreds of messages from girls, guys and even a grandma asking him out on a date.
“I SWEAR this never happens,” Nick Slater told his Triple M colleagues after a woman handed over her number at the pub last Friday afternoon.
Unconvinced the good-looking Grill Team audio producer had never been the recipient of an admirer’s digits in the past, they put it to the test yesterday.
After Tuesday’s show, hosts Matty Johns, Gus Worland and Mark Geyer uploaded a picture of Nick to Facebook with a mobile number where people could reach the 26-year-old.
“Ring him up, ask him on a date, give us some feedback,” Johns told listeners.
And they did.
In less than 24 hours, a shocked Nick had received more than 130 voicemails from a variety of potential suitors. The original Facebook post also attracted some 150 comments.
“I’ve received a bucketload of calls from people — it has been hilarious,” he laughed.
“There was a wide range of messages from some nice girls and a few nice blokes as well. There was even a grandma in there too. I’ve made a few friends.
“We went through and listened to most of them. It was mostly people looking for lust, telling me to give them a call … it was all good fun.”
Among the offers of romance and dinner dates, Nick said there were more than a few odd callers.
“There was a lot of heavy breathing and panting. That was a bit weird.”
But those hoping to get to know Nick will be disappointed — he has a long-term girlfriend Kimberley, who he said is very understanding of his workplace antics.
“She thought it was hilarious. It’s a fun show and we’re always having lots of fun so she knows what to expect. She’s a listener as well so she knows the style and she’s in on the joke.”
