Triple J’s Hottest 100 2024: Results, upsets and winner revealed live
The best song of 2024 has been crowned in Triple J’s Hottest 100, with international artists dominating the countdown.
Chappell Roan has won this year’s triple j Hottest 100 with her smash hit Good Luck, Babe!.
The US pop supernova has yanked the top spot on the youth broadcaster’s annual countdown this year, with Royel Otis coming in second for their Like A Version cover of Murder On The Dancefloor and Billie Eilish’s Birds Of A Feather at third.
Meanwhile, British singer Charli XCX and Eilish dominated the list - both breaking the record for the most songs in a Hottest 100 countdown with eight apiece. G Flip set the record at seven last year.
Up-and-coming US artist Gracie Abrams also surprised with five entries.
Given the station’s storied history as a launchpad for homegrown artists, fans did express concern the beloved countdown is headed in the direction of spotlighting bigger international acts. Taylor Swift even made the countdown for the first time this year (more on that below).
“Gracie is one of my top artists ever BUT hottest 100 is not for the international artists! it originally was about celebrating aussie artists and its not about that anymore,” one user wrote.
“I’m this close to turning triple j off. This year’s hottest 100 is so disappointing so far,” another said.
“Soooo much Charli in this year’s hottest 100 OMGGG,” a third wrote.
“Charli and Billie having a hottest 100 off,” a fourth added.
“This is the worst hottest 100 I have ever listened to, international artist after international artist. Triple J slowly killing Australian music,” a fifth said.
Others offered a bit more humour, with one offering, “watch the number one song on hottest 100 be espresso (Sabrina Carpenter)”.
Last year, American rapper and singer Doja Cat took out the top spot with her massive single Paint the Town Red.
Prior to that, Australian artists had claimed victory two years in a row, with Flume’s Say Nothing coming out on top in 2022 and The Wiggles in 2021 with their Like A Version cover of Elephant.
The Hottest 100, since the ‘90s, has long been a celebration of Aussies. From 1996 to now, local artists have topped the countdown 17 times.
