Triple J host Matt Okine got ‘schooled’ by Chris Rock on radio

TRIPLE J breakfast co-host Matt Okine probably regrets telling comedy legend Chris Rock that he’s a “really good” stand-up comedian.

TRIPLE J breakfast co-host Matt Okine “got schooled” on radio this morning by Chris Rock.

Appearing on the national radio program to promote his new movie Top Five, Rock’s face lit up when host Alex Dyson mentioned that his offsider, Matt Okine, does stand-up comedy.

“Any good?” asked Rock.

“I’m really good,” replied a confident Okine.

“You’re saying that to me?” said a surprised Rock, “I play basketball but when I see Jordan I don’t say I can play”.

The American comedian, once dubbed the funniest man on the planet, then requested to hear some of Okine’s material.

“I have to see this, I have to critique this act,” he said.

It didn’t take long for Alex Dyson to track down 30 seconds of Okine’s stand-up to play to Rock.

Watch what happened next in the video below (the stand-up audio plays at the 1.39 mark):

Speaking to news.com.au after the show, Okine didn’t sound too thrilled with his co-host Alex Dyson.

“I was thrown under a bus basically,” he said.

“The simple matter is, one of my childhood heroes and a comedy legend basically schooled me this morning.”

Okine also revealed that he and Rock had a good laugh about the on air comedy critique once the microphones were switched off.

“He was joking around about how he is going to support me on my next tour,” said Okine.

“I’m doing some shows in Melbourne, he’s welcome to come and do a tight five before them.”

Matt Okine is currently touring Australia with his new comedy show, The Other Guy. Check out his tour dates here.
