Nova presenter Nathan Morris exposes ‘terrible’ celebrity interview
Nathan, Nat and Shaun co-host Nathan Morris has named the major Hollywood actor who delivered his show’s most “terrible” interview ever.
Nova radio star Nathan Morris has lifted the lid on the worst celebrity interviews he’s endured across his two decades on air.
Speaking to news.com.au in honour of his 20th anniversary on Nova 93.7 FM’s top-rated breakfast show, the Nathan, Nat & Shaun co-host outed US actor Jason Bateman as his least favourite A-list encounter.
“It’s so disappointing, because I loved him,” the Perth-based radio presenter admitted. “I loved him in Arrested Development.”
Nathan explained that Bateman had come in as part of his press tour for 2009 comedy Couples Retreat, which became a box office hit but was savaged by critics.
“He was just being a p***k. It was for his movie, which was terrible, but that’s not my fault, Jason, that’s your fault. So don’t come at me with an attitude about your s**t movie,” he laughed.
“Instead, just come and be nice and do the interview. You’re doing a new movie, we’re doing a radio show – let’s meet in the middle and make it good … But [Bateman] was terrible.”
Nathan pointed to Nathan, Nat & Shaun’s interview with Meatloaf as another nightmare celebrity encounter, also describing the US singer as “terrible”.
“Meatloaf was terrible too. I asked him a question about meat and he had a go at me,” he said.
“His name is Meatloaf! It was just lighthearted banter!”
Nathan, who first found fame after landing in the top five in Big Brother season 2 back in 2002, scored the high-profile role on Nova’s breakfast show in Perth the following year – and long ago silenced any early critics.
Twenty years on air in the coveted early slot is something achieved by few in Australian radio, especially for a fresh-faced “kid from Kalgoorlie”, as Nathan described himself, with “no experience and no clue what I was doing”.
It’s clear he and his current team have certainly worked out the formula, with Nathan, Nat & Shaun holding the #1 spot in Perth’s breakfast show ratings for six years.
In the most recent survey, the show held on to their longtime title with a massive 17.3 per cent audience share.
(For some context: in the most recent Sydney ratings, powerhouse radio program TheKyle & Jackie O Show scored 17.9 per cent).
Reflecting on his incredible milestone this week, Nathan credited their dedicated listeners for helping them provide such unique content.
“They’ve been listening for so long, and they feel so safe on the show that there’s no guard, and they can just tell us stuff and they know it’ll be taken the right way, or it’ll feed into our sense of humour … or they know it will shock us,” he explained.
“And it’s really great hearing them be excited to tell us their stories, to hear our reactions – although some of them we’re like, ‘Wow, you really should be changing your name and your voice’.
“ … We could take out competitions, we could take out celebrity interviews and we could just do a show speaking to the people of Western Australia, ‘cause they just make us laugh a lot.”
