Nova FM’s Smallzy reveals what the world’s biggest stars are really like
NOVA FM’s Smallzy has spoken to some of the biggest stars in the world. But who was naughty, who was nice and which star passed out mid-chat?
SOME of his celebrity interviews went well, some went very badly and one even resulted in a huge star passing out.
Smallzy, who hosts Smallzy’s Surgery each weeknight on Nova FM, has spoken to some of the world’s biggest stars.
And he’s opened up to news.com.au about the good, the bad and the downright ugly.
THE GOOD:
“Taylor Swift blows my mind every time,” said Smallzy, who has spoken to the Shake It Off singer a number of times.
“She has this amazing presence and when you walk into a room with Taylor Swift it’s just like, BOOM!
“She’s very controlled and you quickly realise that you’re talking to the head of an empire, but she always gives you exactly what you want from an interview as well.”
THE BAD:
“Pick any actor you like of a particular movie and guess what?” said Smallzy.
“They’re nothing like that character and it is the most deflating moment when you go, ‘Oh, you’re really boring’.”
So who has been the most disappointing?
“With Mark Wahlberg, I was thinking in my head that this guy’s been to jail and he’s been in Hollywood for more than 20 years so he should have some interesting stories.
“Then in the interview he gave me one word answers and I just thought to myself, ‘Oh wow, there’s nothing there at all.’”
And Smallzy was also incredibly disappointed after chatting to the supposedly humorous Chris Rock.
“I wouldn’t be running back to the start of the line to interview him again,” said the radio star.
“He was a lot of work. I was like, ‘Tell me a joke, you’re a comedian. Even if you tell me the same joke you’ve told everyone else, I don’t care.’”
THE AWKWARD:
Interviews don’t always go to plan, such as when Smallzy caught up with Music superstar David Guetta who was on the phone from Dubai.
“He put me on hold during a live to air interview,” said Smallzy.
“I was on hold for 30 seconds and then he picks up the phone and says, ‘Hello? Who are you?’ And I said, ‘I’m the guy you are doing an interview with!’ And he replied, ‘I’m doing an interview?’
“So I decided just to forget about it and end the chat.”
Think that’s awkward? Wait till you hear what happened when he interviewed Pharrell.
“Just 30 seconds into the chat he just kind of blanked out and it was all over.
“It turns out he was really sick and he basically fainted on me.”
THE GAMES THEY PLAY:
Certain celebrities put restrictions on the types of questions you can ask them during interviews. According to Smallzy, the Kardashians are among the biggest offenders when it comes to ruling certain topics ‘off limits’.
“If you were interviewing the Kardashians today, the first thing you’d be told is that you can’t ask about Bruce Jenner,” said the 31-year-old.
“With the Kardashians, the reason you can’t ask certain questions is because there’s an upcoming episode of KUWTK where they’re going to talk about that exact thing.
“Take Kylie Jenner’s lips for example. There was a blanket rule that you couldn’t ask her about her lips during interviews. And the reason why is because the latest episode was all about her revealing that she’d had lip fillers.”
THE BIGGEST ‘OMG’ MOMENT:
Smallzy’s been lucky enough to party with the stars at a number of the big awards events, but there’s one party in particular which stands out in his mind as “the craziest party ever”.
“Everybody who was anybody was at the MTV Europe Music Awards after party in Belfast in 2011,” said Smallzy.
More than 700 VIP’s danced the night away inside the Europa Hotel and Smallzy managed to rub shoulders with stars such as Katy Perry, Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga.
But surprise, surprise, it was Justin Bieber who shocked with his antics inside the event.
“It was back when Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez were together and they had no issue with PDA’s,” revealed Smallzy.
“If anyone wanted to know who was in a relationship, all they had to do was look over at them and you could certainly tell they were together. You can join the rest of the dots on your own.”
Smallzy’s Surgery airs weeknights from 7 to 10pm nationally on Nova FM.
