Nova comedian Tommy Little redefines the word ‘weapon’ in hilarious new standup

THE world “weapon” usually refers to an implement used to inflict harm. But Nova comedian Tommy Little is using it in a new way, sure to catch on.

THE world “weapon” usually refers to a deadly implement used to inflict harm but Nova comedian Tommy Little begs to differ.

“It originally was meant to be like a muscly dude, like Arnie is the original ‘weapon’,” Little said.

He-Man and Mr T from The A-team are also “weapons”, according to Little.

“But I just use it now for anyone who you like. Instead of going, what a legend, you go, look at this weapon.

“I think if someone makes a meal out of the things they have in the fridge at 3am in a sharehouse, that’s a pretty weaponry effort.”

Little is so committed to his “weapon” status that he is setting out to redefine the word through his Comedy Festival show, Enter The Weapon, where a running joke is Little’s love of DJ Snake and Lil Jon’s party anthem, Turn Down For What.

“It’s a name all of my friends vie for,” Little, 30, said.

“So we have these conversations where it’s like, ‘hey weapon, oh hey weapon. Who are you calling a weapon?’

“I use it when I meet guys now. I’m just like, ‘look at this weapon’.”

But does everyone really know what the world “weapon” means when Little and his mates use it?

“No, that’s why it’s treacherous but it’s also what makes me laughs about it,” he said.

And it doesn’t always go down well.

“There was a group of friends that I ran into and I started calling them ‘weapons’ and they kind of looked at me and then after a few minutes, when we got to chatting, they were like, ‘what do you mean by that?’

“And I said, it’s another world for legend.

“They use it in the opposite way ... they use it in exchange for wanker, essentially.”

Perhaps one of Little’s most weapon-like qualities is performing his stand-up show six nights a week while hosting his breakfast radio show at Nova in Melbourne and still going out afterwards.
“I go to walk away and then I go, you’re young, which isn’t even really true any more,” Little laughed.

“You’re young, this could be the best time of your life, why go home?

“It’s essentially Turn Down For What.”
