Natarsha Belling leaves Triple M Breakfast weeks after starting new show

Another Triple M host has stepped down from their role – this time, only weeks after starting a new show amid much fanfare.

Natarsha Belling has announced she is leaving Triple M Breakfast, only weeks after the launch of her new show with co-hosts Beau Ryan and Aaron Wood.

The journalist and presenter will continue in her television role Seven’s National News at Noon but instead of co-hosting the breakfast radio show alongside Ryan and Wood, will take on the host role of LiSTNR podcast The Briefing, Afternoon Edition.

“While I love breakfast radio, I’m going to have to farewell you guys,” Belling said on Tuesday, explaining that her passion for journalism was the reason for her swift exit from the new line-up.

She continued: “I step away from this team here at Triple M breakfast wishing you sincerely all the very best for the future. To our lovely loyal listeners, without you, we are nothing. To our audience, thank you for all the laughs and as always, your incredible support.

“To Beau, Woodsy and Kat, thank you. I sincerely wish you all the very best. I will miss you but I cannot wait for the sleep ins.”

Ryan said it was “tough to hear” after working together for just six weeks, despite knowing how much journalism meant to Belling.

“It’s a bittersweet situation,” Ryan said.

Belling explained: “It’s an incredible opportunity that is aligning with my passion for journalism. We’re in an incredible moment in history right now with what’s unfolding and I just couldn’t pass it up, so I sincerely wish all of the you guys all the very best.”

Triple M and LiSTNR are both part of Southern Cross Austereo, but it’s still a surprise exit given Triple M’s new breakfast line-up was announced with much fanfare at the end of last year, and has only been on-air since January 20.

The new line-up announcement came after NRL legend Mark ‘MG’ Geyer was sensationally axed from his Triple M breakfast radio show late last year.

It also comes the week after Marty Sheargold left Triple M following an enormous backlash to his comments about the Matildas and women’s sport.

Radio hosts slammed for misogynistic comments on Matildas

The week before that, Triple M axed long-running late-night show Night Shift, and along with it, presenter Luke Bona.

And those weren’t the only headline-making exits across Triple M.

In September last year, Triple M’s Adelaide drivetime radio hosts were left reeling after the station axed their program – despite it rating first in its timeslot.

State-based afternoon drivetime shows in Queensland and NSW were also axed at the end of 2024.
