Merrick Watts and Jules Lund poke fun at their dire situation, with their jobs now on the line
A LEAKED video has emerged showing Jules Lund and Merrick Watts sounding off about being deserted by their on air co-hosts Sophie Monk and Mel B.
JUST under a year ago, a slick viral video campaign trumpeted the much-hyped arrival of 2DayFM’s new Sydney breakfast team in the form of Merrick Watts, Jules Lund, Sophie Monk and Mel B.
But things change quickly in radio and now just the boys remain, in an embarrassing exodus that will see the show — and the remaining talent — replaced.
Now a leaked video has emerged showing Watts and Lund spoofing the original video, set to Pharrell Williams’ hit song “Happy”.
In it, the boys are the only ones left in deserted meeting rooms and are left to dance alone down the street in scenes that were previously filled with the rest of their team.
MONK OUT: And then there were two — Sophie Monk follows Mel B and quits 2DayFm breakfast show
Wearing a chicken suit and fluorescent green gorilla costume, the pair then say what most of their listeners are thinking.
“Jules, you know everyone has f***ed off,” Watts says.
“You’re kidding. What are we going to do?” Lund asks. “Keep dancing. We don’t want to look like idiots.”
Monk announced at the weekend she would not be returning next year, just months after Mel B quietly disappeared from the show.
The original four hosts were announced late last year in a series of videos featuring a range of celebrities that teased out the possible team.
It was hoped Merrick, Jules, Sophie and Mel B could keep 2DayFM at the top of the ratings following the very public departure of former powerhouses Kyle and Jackie O, who defected to rival station Kiis FM.
A new breakfast line up is expected to be announced by 2Day FM today, with industry sources tipping current drive duo Dan and Maz as the hot favourites.
“That’s what everyone here thinks is the likely move,” a network source said.
There’s also mounting speculation that former broadcast stars Hamish Blake and Andy Lee could return to the airwaves with a national drivetime show.
