Kyle Sandilands and Tegan Kynaston’s wedding extravaganza went off without a hitch, but it seems there were some near-disastrous moments that happened behind the scenes, some of which they seemingly didn’t know about.

But before he was told of the mishaps on air this morning, Sandilands confirmed to listeners that he and his bride did do the deed on their wedding night.

“A lot of people are asking, ‘Did you consummate the marriage?’ You bet your arse!” he declared on air on The Kyle & Jackie O Show

Sandilands explained both he and Kynaston were “exhausted” from the festivities, with him “lying in bed in my undies, waiting to be serviced” while his bride was “on the floor beside me on the phone, talking to her girlfriends”.

Sandilands then pushed, asking, “When is this sex going to happen?” before they finally “got there”. However, he admitted it was over “pretty quick”.

Debriefing with co-host Jackie “O” Henderson, Sandilands was then told that of the hiccups on the day, such as the champagne glass tower being scrapped at the last minute and how a fire almost broke out during his wedding speech.

Henderson explained that a tarot card reading she did prior to the wedding somewhat predicted the fall of the champagne tower after she pulled out the Tower Card – the worse card in the deck, apparently.

“I did a tarot card reading on the predictions of the day and a lot of them were wrong. But there was one that was right,” Henderson recounted on air.

“The only thing we were worried about the most was we asked [the tarot card reader] if anything bad were to happen, how bad would it be, what kind of thing were we looking at? And I drew the Tower Card, which is really bad tarot card to draw. It’s basically falling to their death from a tower or there’s a fire – it can mean [something] bad.”

She went on to explain that the tower of champagne glasses were knocked over and they all smashed to the ground. Organisers tried to create a new one in the marquee but it was just too late so they ditched the idea altogether.

The Kyle & Jackie O Show Senior Producer Pete Deppeler, aka Intern Pete – who was the MC at the event – insisted it was not him who knocked the tower over, but he did confirm that a staff member was to blame.

Henderson also told Sandilands that a fire broke out during the reception while he was giving his wedding speech – and it was her 12-year-old daughter, Kitty, who alerted her to the fact.

“You’re making your speech and everyone’s transfixed on you,” Henderson told her co-host. “And the table next to me, Kitty nudges me, and it starts catching on fire. The candle had caught onto those massive pearls on a chain on the table. I think inside they’re filled with foam and it had caught on fire, and it all started catching on fire – proper flames were going up.”

She then told Kitty to alert the lady at the table, who then helped to put out the flames – all of which unfolded in front of the unbeknown groom.

“I did not see that,” he told Henderson.

Meanwhile, in his speech, Sandilands was uncharacteristically emotional as he spoke lovingly of his new bride.

“I’d like to give a special note to my wife. Baby, we’ve done it, we’ve done it,” he said. “In the beginning, we spent hours and hours discussing what was important in our lives … listening to what she wanted and what I wanted was the same thing, and that friendship turned into love.”

“We fell in love and the excitement of our romance was electrifying,” he added, saying “we’ve travelled, we’ve laughed, we’ve cried” but have “always had each other’s backs from the start”.

“Eight months ago I fell in love with you all over again when you gave birth to our son Otto,” he continued. “Seeing you as a mother has cemented everything I knew about you already. I couldn’t be happier with out family and the life that we’ve built together.

“I always thought maybe the love I was looking for was a delusion, it wasn’t achievable in my Disney mind of what I wanted a wife and family to be. But when I met you, everything fell into place.”
