Kyle Sandilands has suffered a terrifying scare after falling down a “long” staircase at his Sydney home in the early hours of the morning.

KIIS FM was forced to play a prerecorded episode of Kyle and Jackie O Show on Wednesday after the shock jock suffered a nasty tumble shortly before he was set to go live on-air.

The 52-year-old took another day off to recover on Thursday, calling in to tell viewers what had happened to him.

“I fell from the top of my internal staircase and rolled, rattled and bumped all the way to the bottom, and I was left splayed out like a Christmas dinner,” Sandilands told co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson.

“It’s a big marble staircase, very wide and very long, and in some design flaw, the light [switch] is at the bottom, not at the top, it was pitch black and my foot went,” he added.

Sandilands said he was home alone at the time, with his wife Tegan Kynaston and their one-year-old son Otto having spent the night away.

“So the normal routine wasn’t happening, the nanny wasn’t there because the baby wasn’t there, and the lighting situation wasn’t sorted out,” Sandilands said.

“I carry everything in [my] hat, my wallet, keys, cigarettes … That all went everywhere, and I was left at the bottom of the floor.

“I was so injured I thought, ‘That’s it for me. This is the beginning of the end.’”

While he said he was left “rattled” by the accident, Sandilands went on to confirm he was doing “fine” now.

The radio king rarely calls in sick these days, after previously claiming he’d been fined “about a quarter of a million dollars” by the station for taking too much leave.

Speaking on-air back in 2021, Sandilands revealed he had a set number of days he was allowed to take annually – and if he went over the allocation – he would cop a massive fine.

“You know how you get sick days every year? My accountant told me that I’m over … all before February,” Sandilands said at the time.

“Then the fines system that they put in place here for me (kicks in).

“Anyway … I realised that about a quarter of a million dollars had been p*ssed away for nothing!”

While that may sound like a staggering amount to pay in fines, for Sandilands, it equates to roughly six shifts.

At the time, he was earning between $7-8 million per year, which saw him take home $39,000 per three-and-a-half-hour show.

Sandilands and Henderson negotiated even bigger salaries when they re-signed their contracts with Australian Radio Network (ARN) in November, with the duo now earning a minimum sum of $10 million each per year.

The new deal, which ensures they’ll remain on-air until the end of 2034, also included expanding their show to Melbourne.
