Kyle Sandilands celebrates radio show’s #1 rating, disses Nova and 2GB hosts
Kyle and Jackie O have celebrated a major victory in the latest radio ratings – with the radio host putting his various rivals on blast.
Kyle Sandilands issued a backhanded compliment to his radio rivals after the Kyle and Jackie O Show won their 42nd consecutive survey as Sydney’s top FM Breakfast show.
The Australian radio star, alongside co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, celebrated the KIIS FM show’s number 1 ranking on both FM and AM dials Thursday, following the release of the latest radio ratings.
The powerhouse duo grew their share to 16.1 per cent, attracting a weekly cumulative audience of 834,000 – making them to the most listened to radio show in Australia.
Their closest competition over at Nova, 96.9’s Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie, came in at number two on FM, achieving their best results to date with a 8.9 per cent share, seeing an increase of 0.5 share points.
Speaking on-air Thursday after the survey results dropped, Sandilands somewhat congratulated his Sydney rivals for their history-making feat.
“Let me give out a special acknowledgment nod in the ratings to Fitzy and Wippa over at Nova, who have had the biggest ratings they’ve ever had in the history of their show,” Sandilands began.
“Although we are double their ratings … like, even us at our worst ratings ever of all time, still, we had more than Fitzy and Wippa.
“While I’m giving them a nod, they’re still not as good as our worst numbers ever.”
Sandilands and Henderson also topped the AM dial, leapfrogging 2GB’s Ben Fordham, who dropped by 1.7 per cent with a 14.9 per cent share.
“Ben Fordham tumbled down,” Sandilands said.
“I took great pleasure in texting him myself before his management would’ve given him the figures to let him know that once again he is a loser.”
Sandilands and Henderson’s victory comes just days ahead of their much talked about expansion into Melbourne, with their first show going live April 29.
They’ll be on a mission to topple Fox FM’s Fifi, Fev & Nick, who won the recent survey with an 11.2 per cent share in the city.
In second place on Melbourne’s FM dial was The Christian O’Connell Show on Gold FM with 9.9 per cent.
Meanwhile, Nova’s newest breakfast co-hosts Jason Hawkins and Lauren Phillips – who were punted from their KIIS show in favour of the Kyle and Jackie O Show – helped the network to a slight bump in the ratings, nabbing a 1.6 per cent share.
However, they were only on-air for a couple of weeks in the recent survey.
