Kyle Sandilands blows up over ‘tricking listeners’ claim
KYLE Sandilands has fired back at claims his radio show has been “cheating” listeners by rehashing old content.
KYLE Sandilands has responded angrily to claims that his radio show has been “cheating” their listeners.
An article published on news.com.au yesterday highlighted how Sandilands and his Kiis FM co-host, Jackie O, aired an entire show full of previously aired content yesterday without explaining why.
At no stage during the show did they reveal to listeners that it was a “best of” show.
In a stinging attack on air this morning, Sandilands accused news.com.au of writing “lies” and “trying to make us look like f***ing a***holes”.
Here’s the background. When asked yesterday about Kyle’s absence, an ARN spokeswoman told news.com.au he called in sick at the last minute.
“All broadcast media will, at times, replay entertaining content that audiences have loved and this may include individual segments or be part of a ‘best of’ show,” the spokeswoman said.
“Some elements of today’s show had aired previously; this was due to Kyle being unwell and a short turnaround to get the show to air at 6am.”
A fired-up Sandilands used the opening break of his radio show this morning to respond to the article.
“I wasn’t here yesterday and we had to do some replays,” he said, “but I’m sick and tired of reading things in the newspaper, outright lies”.
“Over the past few weeks I have had a couple of days off, I haven’t been feeling that well and it goes on and off, some days good, some days not good.
“But the truth is I think I’m still finding it hard to deal with the death of my dad. (Sandilands’ father passed away in March.) I just wanted to keep it private but I’ve got to put it out there now ’cause I don’t want all the doom and gloom and everyone worried and people making up stories.
“It’s tough when you read things online, you know; online writers at news.com.au start accusing us of tricking listeners,” he said.
“I got a little bit annoyed and I thought hang on, don’t be ashamed for actually missing your father. I thought don’t let this bulls**t be said by these haters that just wanna fill everyone with lies ’cause that’s not the way it is.”
Yesterday’s article on news.com.au did not take issue with Sandilands being absent. It made the point that it was never made clear to listeners why a “best of” show was being aired.
Kyle didn’t address that issue during his rant this morning, but a caller did.
“Kyle you’re allowed to have sick days,” listener David said. “Can I just say a tip though? Can we just with the replays, maybe not play the two-day-old ones? Can we just play them a month later or something?”
A confused Kyle responded with, “What sort of a lazy person played a two-day old one?”
And that right there seems to be the issue.
