Kyle and Jackie O’s ratings scare: ‘I feel sick’
KYLE and Jackie O dropped a myriad of F-bombs when their boss pranked them by saying that Rove and Sam had beaten them in the latest radio ratings.
KYLE and Jackie O dropped a myriad of F-bombs yesterday when their boss told them that Rove and Sam had beaten them in the latest radio ratings.
But the bad news was actually just a prank by the KIIS FM program director Derek Bargwanna.
There are eight radio surveys each year that reveal what percentage of the total radio audience is listening to each show.
Going into yesterday’s survey, Kyle and Jackie O was the number one FM breakfast show in Sydney with 2Day FM newcomers Rove and Sam back in sixth place.
This morning Kyle and Jackie O aired audio of what happened when their boss, who they said “was as pale as a ghost,” delivered the disappointing results.
“We dropped 4.9,” Bargwanna said to the radio duo.
“F***ing hell,” a shocked Jackie O said.
“That’s the worst ever,” Kyle said.
But the bad news got even worse.
“But Rove and Sam have gone up 3.7 ... so they’re 6.7,” Bargwanna said.
“No!” Jackie O said, “Are you kidding? They beat us? F***ing hell!”
Kyle was suspicious, saying, “Obviously something’s not quite right there,” but Jackie O fell for the prank hook, line and sinker.
“Rove and Sam have beaten us ... that’s like f***ing crazy,” she said, “I actually feel sick”.
Jackie O then started panicking about how the press would react to their terrible ratings results.
“They’re gonna crucify us,” she said, “It’s gonna be the worst day ever”.
And she continued ...
“Are you f***ing kidding me?” Jackie O asked again, “What they f***? They’ve (Rove and Sam) gone from 3 to 6.7. I just don’t understand.”
And that’s when the boss decided to put the duo out of their misery.
“I’m bulls****ing you,” Bargwanna said, “We’re still number one!”
“I am so relieved,” Jackie O said.
Kyle and Jackie O did drop a little in yesterday’s ratings but they remain the number one FM breakfast show in Sydney with Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa in second place.
2Day FM’s Rove and Sam had their best result since hitting the airwaves last year with a 0.3 per cent ratings increase.
