Kyle and Jackie O pranked on air by their Sydney radio rivals
SYDNEY breakfast radio hosts Kyle and Jackie O received an unusual call from a suspiciously gruff-sounding woman this morning.
COLOURFUL Sydney radio duo Kyle and Jackie O have been pranked by their counterparts from another network in a rare exchange across the vast divide of FM.
The Kiis FM breakfast hosts took a call from a gruff-sounding woman named Erica, who was celebrating her birthday and got the chance to spin a prize wheel.
“I’m 41 today,” the excited listener began.
But all was not as it seemed — the caller was in fact birthday boy Merrick Watts, one-third of the beleaguered 2Day FM breakfast team.
While on air with his higher rating rivals, Watts engaged in a brief chat about the trials and tribulations of getting older, including the need to avoid carbs, in which ‘Erica’ declared she was “sick for carbs”.

And then the prize wheel stopped on a dinner for two at an Italian restaurant.
“I won a dinner? Oh my God, Kyle and Jack … it’s Merrick here from 2Day FM,” he confessed. “I was hoping I’d win the car.”
Kyle Sandilands and his longstanding broadcast partner Jackie Henderson famously walked from 2Day FM at the end of last year following heated and very public contract negotiations, defecting to Kiss FM where their show remains a rating dominator.
Watts came on board with Jules Lund, Sophie Monk and Mel B to fill their shoes in a much hyped move that ultimately failed.

The show was dumped earlier this month, just a week after Monk announced she wouldn’t be returning. Current drive presenters Dan and Maz will jump to breakfast next year.
Despite there being no love lost between Sandilands, Henderson and 2Day FM, they were good sports during this morning’s prank call.

Watts alluded to the situation in his birthday chat, sarcastically remarking “everyone here is having a great time”.
Monk jumped on the line for a chat, saying they were forced to call for her colleague’s birthday because “we’ve got no prizes left over here”.
As for that dinner for two? Watts invited Sandilands to join him, but he didn’t sound keen.
Watts will join Triple M next year, while Lund will temporarily host the national drive show before powerful returning duo Hamish Blake and Andy Lee begin in July.
